Moving to Maryland.

I am trying to find out information about my notary business. I maybe moving to Parkville Maryland soon and I would like to know what I have to do to get started there? Do I need to take a Notary signing agent course again? Can anyone help me with this please. Thank you Tanya

I believe you have to have a Title Producer's License. Do a search using the orange tab and search for the words title AND producer

Yes, you will need to obtain a Title Producers license.

Contact the MIA (Maryland Insurance Administration). The Maryland Land Title Association will also be good to contact.

You will need to attend classes, take the title producers test and be bonded.
You will also be required to do 16 credit hours every 2 years in order to keep you TPL.
It is costly and do a search by zip code to see just how much competition you have, it is alot.
It took me about 2 months from the time I took the classes and then took the test and got my bond to be licensed to do the closings.

I thought MD was an attorney state?

From GA thread:

>Yep, "attorney state" means you can't do closings unless you're licensed as an atty. in that state. Applies to refi.s, HELOCs, etc., as well as purchases. If you do a closing and are not licensed as an atty. in that state it's a misdemeanor (unauthorized practice of law).

I think there are 7 atty. states? GA, SC, MA, DE, WV, VT, MD, (and IL requires either an atty. or title agent?).

wrong, Maryland is not an attorney state. You must have the following!
Licensed Title Producer , issued from the state of Maryland. Attend classes, take a test and get a 100,000 surety bond. You also request a waiver for the fidety bond, saying you have no employees.

And then you wait!
