My very first signing!!

Had my very first signing tonight!!..so excited..but so sad I missed the Tyvek envelope issue with Brenda..<G>

Tell me - are ALL packages 117 pages long??...Jeesh - and I had to print one for the borrower too..

Anyway, it went well...a few little minor glitches but all in all not too traumatic - thank you everyone here for all the tips I've read over the last couple months - your input really helped me through it.

Welcome to our world...

117 pgs. is about average. Some smaller, but not much. Some larger. And always X 2.

I had my first signing 2 weeks ago. I was excited and nervous at the same time. I got my very first check and that tells me I must have done it right. Never heard another word from them. I wish there was more explinations on what the different docs are. I had a whole list of things they wanted faxed back. Some I had no idea what they were and others I spotted right away. I did try to call them and got a no answer so I did the best I could. Any suggestions for a really new notary? Best wishes to you too Diga....I hope you get a lot more calls. Congratulations.

I missed some initials which I can take care of before the package goes out - the Mrs. decided that of all the documents there she really wanted to read the Mortgage word for word - til Mr. told her "we have 3 days for that..lets go!!".. She kept grabbing pages so I need to call her in the morning. Other than that everything seemed to be okay - and it was only about 20 minutes from my house.

Congrats to both of you Diga2Lin and Joy! It's stressful, but when all is done and you've sent that package off FedEx and actually get the check? It's pretty cool.

Even tho I work for a title company and my signings are off-hours, believe me I still get the tummy jitters and feel concern for the borrowers/buyers about how well I conducted the signing, and their comfort level about their loan/purchase.

NR helped me way more than even the escrow officers at my job. It's the best training manual around. Congrats again!

thank you so much for the well wishes Title Gal. I double checked all the docs in front of the borrowers and then again when I got home. Yes you are right....getting the check makes all those jitters worth it. I am still calling myself new, checking and reading this board several times a day......in fact every chance I get. I plan on getting the premium membership here and hopefully learn more as time goes on. One of the biggest problems I have is learning the names of the different docs when the companies want certain docs faxed back to them. That seems to be my biggest challenge right now. So if anyone has any suggestions for this newbie in Michigan I am all ears. Thanks to all of you. So far most everyone seems to be really kind and concerned and helpful too. Thanks again!

Joy - if you haven't gleaned this before

search for thread 33325. Read every word, and print most of the posts. I promise it answers so many of the most common questions, and gives you fabulous advice to boot about being a self-employed person.

A wealth of knowledge that you can't buy anywhere. And there IS a thread about the names of different docs.

There are some great SA's in Michigan. Watch posts by Renee/MI (she knows the lending industry inside and out) and Al, and Betsy and Dorothy. They are all pros.

Re: Welcome to our world, Joy =)

Where in MI are you?

That message thread is worth it's weight in gold, there is SO MUCH invaluable information there all for the taking. Keep popping in here and read/read/read, ask whatever questions you don't find answers for, and we'll all keep you heading in the right direction.

One little tip that can be very, very helpful is to have your state included in your user-name here (and everywhere). Many questions/answers are state-specific, and it helps attract the folks from the same state to your questions, when they can see where you're from. (Had I not read this thread, I would not have known you were in MI!)

Nope they are not all 117 pages long. I had one last week that was 173 pages - 174 if you include the Fedex label that came with the package. Then after I printed them all out, plus copies for the borrower, the title company tells me that because the wife's name is spelled wrong on the lender docs, they will have to redo the package.
But I had printed 69 pages out of the package when my 2100 printer went on the fritz, so I had to switch to the 3015, and that printer is not designed as a workhorse. Finished printing the first set, then printing the borrowers set, towards the end of the package the printer slowed down and it smelled like a motor was burning up. So, when they wanted to redo the package I let them know I couldn't do it, so they got the lenders permission to just have the wife line through the extra letter they had in her name and initial it.

I came home to an e-mail with a second copy of a Request To Close Equity Line and asking that I get both signed - I'd already had one signed at the closing. I e-mailed her back and told her I'd go back tomorrow.

I'm just kinda irritated that I missed those initials - I checked each page but I guess the Mrs. got ahead of me and I missed some - thankfully the package hasn't gone out yet.

As far as getting another package after the first set, Sylvia couldn't you have asked for an additional print fee since it was their mistake?

Yes, I could have asked for another print fee (and my print fee is $45) and this company would have paid it - they always pay my invoice. But I didn't think I could risk trying to print another 173 page package on the 3015.

I had one with this company, where I printed out the package, then the docs were changed and I had to print out another set. Then after I printed out the second set the signing was cancelled. I invoiced $90 for two sets of printed documents, and they paid me within a week.

Docs

There are a couple of training guides that can help you with the docs, not sure if they can be mentioned or not ...but if you search you can find it here on NOT ROT. I think Brenda and PAW have links too that would be of great help( wonder if I can mention that?).

In addition if you search you might find a post by either Brenda TX or Dogmongoer re: docs.

I will do the search and thank you. I also thought about calling NR and just asking them.
