OT OT Actions vs Consequences
I don't make the rules, I just know them. Accept the consequences of your actions, and don't cry "Foul!" when you get burned.
For instance, I recognize when I am outspoken on this board about how difficult it is for me to accept that some signing services attempt to take a fee equal to that of the signing agent, it removes me from the list of signing services. Action brings consquence.
I *choose* to enjoy my right to remind other notaries, "If title companies are willing to pay $150 to a signing service for a job, then that's a reasonable fee to be paid. Learn to get around having a signing service brokering your services."
Signing services seldom call me any more. (Oh, darn it.) Action brings consquence.
I recognize that promoting a networking list of experienced notaries is a problem to signing services who want to make the same as the notary does. Action brings consquence.
I recognize that any type of deviation away from the currently accepted signing service model is a problem to me in the realm of being popular to call for work by signing services. I dislike the notary broker concept so much that I am willing to go at it from a different angle. I do not cry about being a victim. I personally have created this very response to myself. Action brings consquence.
Further, I recognize I am pushing buttons by making these statements. Can people not see that they *choose* how others respond to them? Action brings consquence!
How stupid would it be for me not to accept that signing services avoid me? It would be pointless, counter-productive, blind to my own motivations.
Someone will respond to this post. They may not post the reaction, but my action will bring consquence.
I repeat: I don't make the rules, I just know them. Accept the consequences of your actions, and don't cry "Foul!" when you get burned.

Y'know I've found that its the SS that tend to do the lowballing. I've debated whether or not to stop accepting signings from signing services and instead deal directly with title companies and only title companies. I know Al does but does anyone else? How has this worked for anyone else?

Its a natural progression. I turn down lowball consistantly. Only once did I feel I was losing my patience when I was called 4 x's by the same guy, for the same signing, and at the same rate he quoted me the first time. Looking past my annoyance I realized he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. He had been told flatly no negotiations. I expressed my sympathies and explained the facts of my life DBA a signing agent. Courtesy never hurts. At times these lowballers will meet you fees. If not, they stop calling after a while. In the meantime, I market my services and expand my database. In this area, you can tell when the lowball notaries are out of business. I get more SS accepting my fees.

Neon sign for this one of my many notary related posts...
I hope more SS start accepting the fees we quote for services and more and more notaries start turning down the lowball fees. When I first started and got calls, I was asked "How much do you charge?". Now its "Our fee for this signing is..."
If your a new notary reading this, find a mentor and learn from them. The more knowledge you have the more comfortable you will be and out of that will come power to negotiate the fees you are worth. Not what they feel you are worth.

Re: Jahari
I've avoided commenting on other posts, however, in this post you truly show your intelligence related to this field. I do look forward to more ON-TOPIC posts for you in the future.

This subject is certainly not off topic, it applies to everyone. I dont take many jobs from signing services any more and get most of my jobs from title companies and loan reps. Better paying and money arrives much faster. The consquences of saying "no" to SS is great! Try it you will like it.

Sylvia,
Sylvia, you are 110% correct.
Poor quality material. Yes, that's it! AND the scales aren't any better! The nerve of these manufactoring companies!
Years ago when I was in high school, quality workmanship was at an all time high! Wore bikinis each and every summer.
Now, the BATHING SUITS are shrinking too. Thank Goodness for sarongs AND Lycra!
L-O-V-E Lycra!

Re: OT OT Actions vs Consequences...Brenda
The consequences of title companies and lenders using the "notary brokers' is less fees to the notary and more notarial errors due to the "notary brokers" using inexperienced notaries just to make them more profit. It is not good business sense to hire a plumbers helper when you need the plumber. My fees are the same regardless if your the TC or SS. The consequence is, lowball notary brokers can't afford me and therefore don't call.
