OT - Very funny but may offend some republicans
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to former Texas Governor George W. Bush and his elevation to the White House. The old Texan said, "Well, ya know, Bush is a 'post turtle'."
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was. The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle." The old man saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain, "You know he didn't get there by himself, he doesn't belong there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just want to help the dumb shit get down."

Very funny. But I have also heard that joke where the "post turtle" was a Democritter and not a Republican In fact the last time I saw it, it was a Massachusetts business tycoon and not a Texas rancher, and the post turtle was John Kerry.
I think all the political jokes that go around are changed as to the leanings of the person telling the joke.

Yes.... I too have seen this many times and in many variations. Just wanted to give you all a chuckle. You certainly may insert your favorite post turtle. The world is full of those who get a little too puffed up and tend to land on high places that they haven't the sense to get off of.

No more funnies today bestcal.... but, some reflections on the quality of US leadership through the years.....
The right of every man to his own opinion, however different that opinion might be to mine. He who denies another this right makes a slave of himself to his present opinion, because he precludes himself the right of changing it.".....Thomas Paine, 1783 "Free speech exercised both individually and through a free press, is a necessity in any country where people are themselves free." ......Theodore Roosevelt, 1918 "The truth is found when men are free to pursue it." ......Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1936 "If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." ......George Orwell, 1945 "Any time we deny any citizen the full exercise of his constitutional rights, we are weakening our own claim to them." .......Dwight David Eisenhower, 1963 "What is objectionable, what is dangerous about extremists is not that they are extreme, but that they are intolerant." ......Robert F. Kennedy, 1964 "Go f#$%k yourself." .....Dick Cheney, 2004

That was very touching. I spend most days at the VA nursing home here where my father is spending his last days. It's sad to see these WWII vets getting old and leaving us. You should have started a new thread, tho. The video has nothing to do with Bush.

Well, these are such excellent quotes, I'm going to keep a copy of them. Thanks! However, you said no more funnies - but I got a big belly laugh from the last one!!! And you did prove that, at least we HAVE had some articulate leaders in this country in the past... ;>

Re: IMO
We should not have to deal with veterans if we, as intelligent, civilized human beings can learn to respect each other and resolve our differences in a civilized, peaceful manner as oppose to exercising violence everytime someone offends us.(talking about leaders of countries including our own)There is no need for wars and killing of innocent people. There is however, a great need for mutual respect.

I really do want to learn how to make soap. I think I will search on here for a post on making soap so I can learn a new hobby. When I'm done with that I will take up pottery. I can practice my "Ghost" rendition of Demi Moore and really look cool!

OT IMO - Now you are talking, Beverly - The far left and the
far right met and agreed on soap forums, too! Dangest thing I ever saw. Yep...once upon a time I flipped through the internet until I found SoaparyRotary.com and started reading and learning. Those lads and ladies really take their recipes seriously. We bought supplies co-op style, shared learning tips, tricks, and resources. But there was always one "hot process" smart a$$ on the cold process forum which would hijack the thread and go off on how to cook in a crockpot.
Then they'd start getting nasty about social issues, and I'd just start writing about notary rules and they'd ignore me, and keep right on arguing and presenting conundrums. (Pretty soon they all elected me president of the Dork Notary Soap Club...but I don't think they meant it nicely.)
Someone would always say, "GET BACK ON TOPIC!" and exactly like here, I found that the far right and the far left met and it's true what they say about politics. (The far left and the far right meeting in the middle, I mean.) It was clear that mainly people just had personality conflicts with some and before you knew it, cold processor and hot processors were jumping dead in the soap of the clear soap makers.
But, who can tell whether or not I digress...who can tell anything at this point? Let's get back to something clean: My first batch...
The first batch I made turned out perfect. After that, I was hooked. It was a light yellow bar made from primarily lard, castor oil, cocoa butter (oils) and water, lye, a little washing soda and oatmeal. I did not have a mold so I used an old Tupperware flatware organizer.
I posted a recipe for soap at some point over the past few days. That's only the beginning. My favorite oil to work with is castor oil. It can make a world of difference in a batch. I purchase castor oil in five gallon bottles...just like I do my glycerin.
Making soap with lye fascinated me after I read about it in the Foxfire Books. Of course, the old timers got their lye from a process involving ashes...no Red Devil Lye sitting around their local Albertson's.
I will never forget when, and where I was when the urge hit me to start researching it and get cracking.
I'd say that anyone who wants to make soap for fun or profit should start out with the cold process method. Do it until you really understand how it works. When you cold process it, you make it, then set it up for a couple of weeks.
Oh, oh! Let's all make a batch of soap and share our favorite recipes in a book called Notary Soap.
It's got to be better reading than this pile of bullsoap. More on bullsoap later. Stay tuned!
