Have you seen this film:

'When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts' , by Spike Lee?

I really am trying to keep up with Big Brother. That is a summer staple in our house. When we lose power I miss it.

I'm really into the rockstar show this summer. Wow, have I seen some amazing talent...and the fact that Tommy Lee is there in all his loaded glory...does it get any better than that? BTW, have you seen the video?

It sounds just like something my son bought on pay-per-view (maybe similar?)

"Ultimate Fighting Championship Requiem: Lee gets spiked"

Re: O.T. TG

Heck why watch it, when you can live it! In 2004 I spent a total of 26 days without electicity in a span of just 5 weeks. I'm sure glad I'm self supportive and don't rely on the Feds to cover my arse in case of an emergency.

Re: O.T. TG - Talked to a guy from Louisiana

last week. He'd make your hair sizzle with his view. I expressed my sympathy for their plight and he unloaded on me about it. Not saying he is right or wrong...just saying it was an opinion on the massacre of Mississippi which was undercovered by media.

Hard conversations...those. Tough to empathize when you'd rather watch Springer.

I'm confused. This guy was an accordian player.

Yeah, but wasn't his wife a member of that multi-cultural diversity group that advocated open borders and no deoderant? She left him for the guy with 4 wives...she made number 5. To this day, nobody knows what happened.

I think it's a cover-up...smells bad.

He played the *accordian* not the banjo. Wrong parish.

Ya got me beat Becca. I did a week in a snowstorm, no electricity, no heat and running out of food with three kids and a Mom. The kids are still thankful to be alive.

But those foodstamps came in darn handy when we finally dug out.

Sheesh girlfriend, I was in line for the food stamp/FEMA card in 2004. I did $600 in NSA work the month of October 2004. Nobody...I mean NOBODY was writing insurance or processing loans here. We were hit by 2 Cat 3s within three weeks. I did inspections and insurance claim Notarizations to keep some sort of cash flow with a few loan signings here and there. The $230 that FEMA gave me was helpful in filling the fridge after power was restored. Canned meat and veggies get old after about a week.

Becca,

Anyone can be an "emergency" away from
being self-supportive to total federal dependency.
Even if short lived.

The Enron case is a perfect example.
Many of its employees, had worked long and hard for
their retirement pensions, to now have literally
nothing to show for it.

It's through the Grace of God they we all continue
to do well.

That's a completely boneheaded comment

Oh my gosh could I go in to this statement. But that would be a religious discussion and I'm not going to disrespect the boards by posting my views other than to say that Louisanna was being discussed and that a horrible remark to make when we are remembering those who perished or lost everything regardless of there religious beliefs.

SaraBeth Re: That's a completely boneheaded comment

Do not have any idea of what you are talking about!
Why the name calling?
The original post was to Jahari regarding a documentary.
The respond to Becca is that we all are survivors and should Thank God
for our blessings.

So let me spell it out for you

When speaking of the tragedy of Katrina as remembrance (this is one year almost to the day) you commented "It's through the Grace of God we all continue
to do well."

Firstly it seems you don't know the difference between calling someones actions boneheaded and calling someone a bonehead. Pamela if I wanted to call you a bonehead I would have flat out said it.

This is how I took the statement. Members were discussing a tragedy and you point out Gods grace on you and those who weren't victims of the tragedy. The religious issue I won't comment on (if you don't get it don't worry about it since this isn't the place). Brenda put a face on one from Louisanna who was very effected by the tragedy. Sounded close to home for the guy. Personally I think the comment just wasn't appropriate for the thread considering the time and the content. I was equating it to talking trash at a funeral or saying you were thankfull that you weren't the one in the grave. Definately a good topic for another time and another place, just not where it was placed. Could you have meant something else by what you said? Sure. But like I said the time, the place, and the comment not a good thing.

To respond that we are all survivors. Huh? We aren't all survivors. I have never been through such an event as a hurricane. I won't put myself on that same platau. I don't want to diminish what Becca or anyone else who has gone through this type of disatster. Especially considering the loss of life from Katrina.

SaraBeth!

As I will reiterate, the original post was to Jahari. No one else.
I wanted to let him know about specific issues addressing
the Africian American communities. Of all those responding,
not one person (other than Jahari) addressed this!

However, folks got on the band wagon, and started talking about other topics.
If you will read each and every posting, you will see that members on this thread
talked about a rock star, Tommy Lee, Jerry Springer, multiple wives and someone
not having deodrant. Yet, I do not see your commenting on that!

Open your mind and get out of the box. To survive means to live.
Everyone has his or her own story to tell.

The fact that I mentioned God just blew your mind!
