Odd phone call yesterday
I got a random call yesterday from a notary seeking advice. I typically hang up because I'm not hireing. The caller was very serious though and had a real problem. She was doing a loan signing that night. The loan was on a Nevada property and she was afraid that she could not notarize it because she was a California Commissioned Notary. I told her she could not but that I had a special license to notarize Nevada loans so she should let me do it. She bought it hook, line and sinker! ( LOL) I then told her I was joking and she could notarize documents from anywhere as long as the signer was personally appearing before her in California.
She was an association trained CNSA.

Sherry I would expect more professionalism from you,(not sure why) since you are a ss then to add a tit for tat to Joe's post.........weren't you going to take a nice long break from the board or has that break already past. And please don't strike back.....I beg you......

I am a professional and with that being said, I do not intentionally post on peoples threads just to harass them. The last time I posted (about a month or so ago)....Joe found it entertaining to do the same thing he did on this last post - cause controversy where there is none.
I realize to some, I am the enemy so it may be best that instead of reading my posts and taking pot shots or letting out frustrations, just simply ignore them in the future. Thanks!

Re: This is a forum and you have as much right to post
here as anyone else I suspect, if you belong to it. I need not comment further on this post, it speaks for itself, your third sentence explains a bit about you. You are not an enemy to me or a threat, I despise all ss equally because they make money off the notary. However clearly there is a need or else you wouldn't be able to operate. I do myself work for a few select ones and I'm pleased with their professionalism and their overall procedures and more so if they pay on time. I have read your posts before and I know many notaries have said good things about the way you operate. I don't visit the board everyday, and as for ignoring your posts I often do but sometimes that evil side just takes over......shame on me.

Sherry, there is no need for you to think you're the enemy. You're posts show that is just not so.
I echo LakeArrowheads comments - don't go there, and be above it.

It is amazing that there are so many people lusting after the big NSA money to be had....not even realizing that their first and foremost responsibility is to be a notary public, and must follow the rules and guidelines their states have set. I am one of the Notaries Public that got her commission before learning of the potential for additional income as a signing agent. Hence, I focused on learning what I could and could not do as a notary first. That "association" seems to have forgotten to stress and educate the basics, first!

These comments from CA notaries make me smile..
..just another example that the only winners in CA are the "approved" seal makers and the notary class teachers that take advantage of CA's notarial laws to make the almighty buck. The public is not served any better by a CA notary with classes, exams and handbooks than a notary public from my state.

Re: These comments from CA notaries make me smile..
I'd be willing to bet money that the change in CA notary law requiring 6 hours of training had absolutely NOTHING to do with concern for creating better educated notaries and EVERYTHING to do with a successful political lobbying by a group with a financial interest in those training courses.
My commission is up in 6 months and it's outright ridiculous that I'm going to have to pay for, and sit through a basic training course before I'm allowed to take the test that I'll obviously ace.

Notary Class and...
In class we were told that many are refusing to take the class. I think when its time to renew everyone have to go through a background check. I was required to pay for a rolling scan cost $52.00 which took 30 days before I could take my oath.
It didn't bother me about taking the class, because I wasn't a notary and wanted to learn the some of the laws. However, I was mentally drained when it was over it was a very very long day. My costs to complete SOS requirements. I can see why the seasoned notary agents had a problem. When I first checked onto the notary business the cost would had been less way than $50.00 I still had the index card ;-) I had put all the information how to sign up. Signatures were $3.00 I wasn't aware of the loan signing.
Class $65.00 Test $40.00 Scan $52.00 Tools $140.00 Oath $25.00 Bond $37.00 LSAC $59.00 __________ E&O Printer paper Business Cards Notary Rotary still spending ;-) a little extra for forms I have everything I need to do the job.

That's chicken feed Wendy. Try being in a state where you have to be a title producer.

Re: notary class and...I'm sure
I wouldn't want to go that deep into this business, I earn a living from another source that I love. working home from my computer. Which allows me plenty of time to give 100% to the LSA business
It's a lot comparing to the 80's though I say fraud is the main cause.

The notary classes are only as good as the intructors...
I learned far more about Notary law when I was in CA and had to read that manual for the test, than I did here in NC. My NC notary class instructor was just awful, she didn't know the notary laws herself. She would tell the class that you couldn't make copies of DL's because it was illegal (the statute states that you can't make COLOR COPIES of DL's). The entire class was her making things up as she went along. What a waste of 6 hours of my time.

Ah yes, this and the notary myths that fly around by those who read the "Volume I - Standard Procedure Manual for the Manufacturing of a Basic Notary."
"Volume II - Standard Development and Specifications for Assembling the Certified Notary Signing Agent" is another urban legend design project.

Re: The notary classes are only as good as the intructors...
I agree I was happy I look around until I felt I found the one would be up to date. I read tons of complaints so I took my time. I felt I got my money worth it wasn't a wasted day. I stead of telling us what we didn't have to do.
he told us how to do it the best way and some extra tips to protect our seal when using loose certs. I know there's good a not so good insturctors I got lucky ;-) he also had the new forms. We went through the whole traning manual, he gave us pop quize throughout the day. We could stop him and ask questions and he asked that we not bother others ask him.
We went over laws and he begged us not to allow family, friends and money to cloud our judgements. We had fun too and the class went like clock work.
I was so excited, I hardly slept the night before by test time I was drained but I pushed through it and hope for the best ;-)

Cali you need to go thru Notary Rotary
I was part of Harry's pilot program in CA notary education and it is very good - I received my certificate in 24 hours and was on my way to the test center (no class, thank-you-very-much). To sit through a class when I was on my fourth commission would have made me insane.
Harry's course is waaaaay less expensive and far more comprehensive. I can't say enough good about it and will stand behind my words.
CA notaries who are renewing and need the six hour course? You need Notary Rotary, nobody else. For more detail about my experience with NR's class, you are free to email me.

Re: Cali you need to go thru Notary Rotary
Oh yeah, I definitely plan to do an online course. There is absolutely no need for me to sit through 6 hours of ultra basic training. Hopefully it'll be like the online traffic school course I took last year. What would take 8 hours in a classroom setting took about 20 minutes to complete online. Years ago when I had an insurance license I did something like 50 hours of renewal coursework credit in about 6 hours.
But yeah, if Harry offers a course I'd be glad to do it through him. I'm always up for supporting the site financially!

Dang!!!!
You weren't kidding about the price of the course. I went to Notary Public 101 and saw the price listed there of $49. Figured that's what you were talking about and it must be really good compared to other classes.
Then I went to order a couple of new journals and saw the premier member price for the course. 9 BUCKS????? That's just insane. But hey, I'll take advantage of his insanity, I gladly added that to my order.
