Question for Andy Le/Dell printers

I seem to be technically challenged and have a question I hope you can answer as you are familiar with Dell printers. I have the 1700 and 1700n which work great and I couldn't be more please with them, except when I try to send docs to both printers at the same time, it seems to freeze them up. I renamed one of them hoping that was the problem but of course it wasn't. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

By the way congrats on your business success!

Just an off the cuff guess, obviously, I am not Nd! I am also wading off into unknown territory here.

Do you have 512 mb to 1 gb of memory in your computer? I think this is a spooler problem, not a printer problem.

Re: Spooler problem?

I do have 512 mb of memory, and I thank you for trying to help Brenda. You're posts are always welcome.

not to hijack thread

But Pam
Since you have the 1710N and you love it, do you get it to work so that you can have the printer automatically select the paper?
I am still struggling to get mine set up and the best I can do is have it print one or the other.
Thanks
Kathi

Brenda is right, virtual memory issue

FYI, 512MB of memory is nothing when it comes to having enough juice to spool a large pdf file for 2 printers. I have 2GB (DDR2/533mhz) total with 1GB set for virtual memory in my computer and I still get slow printing at times when I crank both printer at the same time.

Your best solution here is to avoid printing pdf image on both printers simutaneously.

The cheapest way to speed up any PC

is to cram it full of RAM...

The laptop I'm using now has 1.25Gig... that's all it will hold.

Huge difference, cheap, easy. It's better to have a tech install memory, but not absolutely necessary.

Re: not to hijack thread

I have the 1700 and the 1700n - not the 1710, and they both automatically select the paper size by the pdf file size. I have the letter loaded in the top tray and the legal in the bottom tray. Sorry, you're having so much trouble but I really like mine because they print fast and are toner efficient.
