Quick $10

Had my husband drive me to the nail salon. He dropped me off and went to Home Depot. I was waiting to get my nails done, and the nail tech I usually have asked me if I could wait a half hour as someone had booked an appointment. (I usually "walk in" and don't have to wait long).
So, called my husband on the cell and asked if he could come back and pick me up and I would come back to the nail salon in 30 minutes.
When he picked me up he told me to call the number that had just called the cell phone, someone needed an "emergency" notarization.
Turned out this guy was at the post office which was closing in 15 minutes and he had a document that needed notarizing and it had to go in todays mail. Post office told him he would be lucky to find a notary at such short notice, but he had gone to the Pak N Ship place, thinking they had a notary there as most of them do. They gave him my card. The nail salon is just across the street from the post office, so I was able to get over to him within a couple of minutes. Did the notarization, made a quick $10, Went to Home Depot with my husband and back to the nail salon within the 30 minutes.

Funny how things like that can work out. Good for you for having the marketing chops to have your cards at the Pak N Ship!

Six years ago I was the signing agent who did the signing for the Pak N Ship owners refi.
They told me then that the husband had not renewed his notary commission and they still had customers coming in wanting something notarized, and they asked me if they could pass out my name. So, I keep them well stocked with my business cards and get several notarizations a month through them.

I had an experience like that the other day. I was at the local court house (my job brings me there a lot) and my nosy-self overheard a person asking one of the clerks if a notary public was available. The clerk stated that there was not and suggested that he go to the Town Hall down the road.

Before the guy left I approached him and told him that I overheard his conversation. I told him that I was a notary and was able to witness his documents. I did this for free because I didn't have to go anywhere. **Come on! I was bored anyway waiting for the clerk-magistrate!** Smile

I'm surprised the clerk didn't forward the guys request over to the clerk-magistrate. They are allowed to take acknowledgments too...... hhhmmm....

Must have seen it on re-runs:)

I think we got it in England, but it would have been after it was popular in the US.
