Relevant if you use Voip.net

This post is for people who use Voip.net - not Vonage or other voip service.

As of early last week, the residential plan no longer reliably supports faxes in or out.

You may be able to fax out to some numbers. You will not be able to get any faxes in, whether to your fax machine or fax-to-email.

THE SOLUTION

Upgrade from a residential to a business plan for around $15 more. You can keep all your numbers the same. Processing takes a few days.

The fastest way to initiate the upgrade:
Live Chat is clogged. Call them.
When you get the list of options, press the one for questions about your account (not billing and not tech support).

Huh???

I'm a bit of an accomplished techno-nerd... not major league, but not a dummy.

I can understand how a VOIP might not be able to reliably handle a fax transmission to a machine... though it oughta... but I'm scatching my head about the fax to email problem.

Unless the fax to email account is with them??? Any other service would just be an email on the ISP's server... no way the VOIP service should be involved.

Admitidly I don't use the service, so I'm just guessing, but it sounds strange.

$15 sounds like chump change, but if that's monthly it's a significant part of a phone bill.

Re: Huh???

Gary,

I would guess if you used voip.net you might find (and, I do not know) that they have options like fax-to-email.

If we really wanted to know, we could go over and peep at Mr. Voip.net Url and find out.

I'd rather just debate theoreticals, wouldn't you? Smile Stupid little smiley face, what the heck do you know...all smug like that. Harumph.

Ya made me look

Hmmm... they advertise fax to email as part of their basic service... and only $9.95 for a "dedicated" fax line.

I'm gonna have to get some sort of e-fax here soon, so I'm paying attention (a little bit).

Frankly the VOIP deal doesn't look taht much cheaper than the land line package I already have Frown
I can't use it anyway... I live up in the woods and have Sattelite DSL which is pricey and flaky. No way I'd depend on it for phone service too.

Re: Ya made me look - Gary

I have voiceline.net. It's pretty good for chatting with family and friends/notaries. I don't really use it for faxing. I use e-fax. I am partial to e-fax. I have a back up with ureach.com. I like it also, but e-fax is more user friend IMHO.
