The price we pay for retirement in the country -

We pay $70/mo for satellite plus an extra $5.00/month to be billed and not have it charged to our credit card - no one services this area except HughesNet. Therefore, if a cloud passes over the house, the internet either slows to a crawl or goes out completely..

Like I said - the price we pay for retirement in the country.

Re: $49 HughsNet (Direcway) Sattelite + $49/m for equip purchase

We purchased the equipment outright...hence the $69.00/month for service (faster service they say)...right..

And at those times a cloud goes over the house, or we have bad weather predicted, I'll have to tell a caller "sorry, no can do....clouds"...

I have Charter Cable in Riverside Ca

I pay around $50 per month: every month for the last 2 years I have told myself "get rid of Charter and go to one of the cheaper sevices. Do I do it? NO!!

I am just about in the same catergory as the people who still "rent" their telephones from Ma Bell in Calif and are too stupid to go purchase a phone!!

The one thing I will say for Charter is I have only lost my conection to the Internet once in 4 years but I bet a lot of cheaper connections can say the same.

If I just got off my a... and called them tomorrow I am sure they would give me a cheaper cable combination internet rate. Maybe I need a 12 step program?

I pride myself on getting the cheapest paper and toner and I let this Internet connection go on month after month! Go Figure!!!

Re: Don't turn down work

I hear what you're saying but I have no choice - believe me - we tried dial-up for the first month we lived here - even the slow satellite is better than the dial-up we had - trust me - I'd never get docs with the dial-up down here..

Would rather refuse it and know the closing moved on to someone who could do it than say yes and not be able to complete the assignment.
