Website Counter

I did my homework and used the orange search button from 1/1/03 to present. Only one mention of a web page counter. My question to those who don't mind answering - Are there disadvantages to adding this to your website? I'd like to have some idea of how many people are viewing my page and when - so that's why I'm considering adding it. Thank you in advance.

Web page counters are a good tool but need not be visable to people visiting your site. I see no value for that. There are other tools you can use to measure activity on your website besides a counter. You can check and see where your visitors are coming from, keywords used, browser and screen sizes used, etcI I host my site at Bravenet and am quite pleased with it.

Almost every single webhosting service have a web stat software where you can check the traffic/acitivities of your site on the web.

Counters are nice, but don't tell the whole story.

Whether you make the count visible to everyone or not is up to you. BrendaTX keeps hers visible, mostly at least.

Andy and the others are right: It is much more valuable knowing where your visitors are coming from (did they Google you?r get directed from your Profile here?r et cetera).

Check with your hosting service. Most everybody has free tools, including counters, and sometimes the non-free tools are worth the small amount you pay.
