Work Volume

I am in Las Vegas and usually do 50-60 signings a month. Today is the 18th and I have only completed around 10 signings. Are there any other Notaries in this area experiencing the same. I am a competent notary and as far as I know did not do anything to cause such a shortage of work. I have been signing since 2003 and this is the first time ever this has happened. Are other areas of the country experiencing the same thing?

I've heard from some of the schedulers that things slowed down in general starting 2006. Last year was my first year in business and each month this year I've surpassed last year's numbers. Since January, I've averaged 33 signings a month.

I've only done 6 signings and I too am in the Las Vegas area. I've only been doing this about 1 1/2 years now but I'm noway near 50-60 signings a month. I figured it was just Las Vegas...what am I missing? You probably wont answer me since I'm considered competition, but what are you doing RIGHT that I'm not doing at all? "Doc"

Re: Work Volume-Doc

Volume does not matter as long as your financial goal is met. Your competitor's 50-60 signings could just be $50 a pop where yours are $100 each while doing half the volume.

Signing Doc, I really think the signing agents in Las Vegas need to market with each other. I work for companies out of California sometimes for local title companies. It is sad that we feel each one is competition, but I have trained three signing agents in this area and it has not affected my signings at all. You can only sign but so many at a time.

There has been much talk in the last week on different radio programs on the real estate market. The interest rates are the highest they have been in 6 years. That means that people aren't refinancing. The housing bubble has also burst, especially in areas like NV & CA. With interest rates this high, you can't buy as much house as you can when the rates are lower. For the newbies, this market is driven by interest rates and the housing market. If you hear about lender and TC layoffs, you should realize that the market is getting bad, and it's time to look for additional income. I've been in the business since 1990 and seen it go way up, and way down. I've been laid off from TC's twice in that time too. Don't ever ever think this will be a stable income, because it will never be.

Good advice. I had gotten used to working regularly. It works much like being a realtor, only on a smaller scale. I've only been doing this a year, part time and it's working out well since I'm a stay at home mom. Gave me something to do and feel like I was part of the earnings in the house. But it has slowed down. Ever since I got back from vacation. 3 times this week I've been scheduled and before the closing it's cancelled. Happened tonight too. Although one wanted me to go a hour after they cancelled, I chose not to. Hopefully things will pick up.

Cassie - What happened?

Cassie - you said
"Although one wanted me to go a hour after they cancelled, I chose not to."

What happened?
Brwr cancel and SS still wanted you to go lean on brwr's doorbell? (sounds like FASS)
Job on, then cancel, then back on? (I would decline too. Docs prob a mess.)

Re: Cassie - What happened?

The SS called to tell me it was cancelled in the morning, the appt was set for 2:15. Then at 12:30. after I had already cancelled my babysitter for that time, the LO calls me and says her BOS changed their mind and want the appt back on. I said sorry, I already cancelled my babysitter, she asked me if the SS had called me, I said earlier to tell me it cancelled. She said OK. 2 minutes after that the SS called to let me know it was back on again, I told them the same thing. It was as if they assumed I could make it and that upset me. I was tired of playing games with them. I never should have taken it to begin with. It was one of the cheaper ones, but it was without edocs and close to my house. Oh well. Live and learn.
