brother5150D printer question

hello everyone, can anyone tell me how to get my brother 5150D printer to select letter size paper from the multipurpose tray and legal size from the lower tray when printing a pdf document with mixed paper sizes. i do not have two 250 sheet trays but the mulitpurpose tray will handle 50 sheets which should handle most of the letter size documents in most loan packages. if you use your 5150D like this please let me know how to do it.

much appreciation, larry

Not sure about 5150, but my 5050LT with dual tray cannot do this. It prints everything from the same tray - the one that corresponds to the size of the first page. So I have to make sure the first page is Legal size in a mixed doc.

I have two brother printers, a 5150D and a 5140. I have not had any problems with either. Spend the money and get the second tray. The printer does not have the option of choosing between the multipurpose tray and main tray. . It will pull from the multipuropse tray first as long as there is paper there.

A side note, if you can afford it, get a second printer. Nothing can ruin your day more than a simple thing like a paper jam on a day when you have accepted 3 or 4 edoc assignments. Usually, I use both printers when printing a set. I print the lender's copies on one and the bo's copies on the other with the other permanetly set on toner saver mode. That way, I print both sets in 5 minutes or so. .... Handy when I have a lot going on.

I have a 5140, but perhaps this will work on the 5150 as well.

Go into start - printers, right click on your printer. Choose "properties" then the accessory tab. When I do this, I see each paper source listed (in my case, tray 1, tray 2, and the single-sheet manual tray) and you can set the paper type for each tray.

Then, when you print a .pdf, when the print window pops up, make sure the box "choose paper source by .pdf size" is selected (this option might be under "advanced" or it might be right there).
