brother 5150D

i'm about to buy a brother 5150D printer. $149 refurbished. it says that it has a 50 sheet mulitpurpose input tray and a 250 sheet tray. is there anyone out there that loads the 50 sheet multipurpose tray with letter size and the regular tray with legal and is able to get it to select the proper paper size in a mixed document?

thanks larry

I have one with the dual tray and I just love it! I put the legal paper in the top tray (something I learned from the experts here) and letter in the botton tray and away I go! Had it for about 9 months now with no problems whatsoever! I'd buy another without any hesitation! I also have a Dell 1700 that has given me grief from the word go! Jam! Jam! Jam!

Hmmm.... I couldn't get that done with my Brother HL-5050LT (Dual tray).
I have loaded upper tray with letter and lower tray with legal.
But if I print a mixed doc everything prints in the same size paper as the first page of the doc.
(First page picks up paper from the correct tray, remaining pages comes from the same tray Smile
No luck with the customer service - They just keep telling the same thing over and over, not of much help.
Anybody with 5050LT able to do this successfully? I've almost given up on this.

I have the brother 5150dnt - it works great for switching letter to legal. I just have it checked to automatically select- Best under $300 investment for a printer. I print customer copies front & back with toner saver. Love my printer

I have to agree. I bought my 5150DLT at OfficeMax for $169 on clearance and it has been the best investment. Not only does it make printing the docs almost hassle free but it's extremely economical. My page gount is almost 6000 on the original toner cartridge.

Re: Mike here's what you do...

1) Open printers and faxes in Control Panel
2) Right click printer and select printer properties
3) Click the accessories tab and make sure Tray 1 is set as Letter and Tray 2 is Legal
4) Click on general tab and go to printing preferences
5) Paper Source should be: First Page - Auto Select: Other Pages - Same as First Page.

Hope this helps.

Re: Mike here's what you do... P.S.

In the advanced tab check printing defaults to see if the above mentioned settings are applied.

The 5150DLT will do it. If you have legal/letter in each tray go to preferences on the print screen. It will have one of the trays highlighted, click on it so none of them are highlighted. Then it works. I figured it out by accident one day
