recording
HI
I notarized a grant deed that needs to be recorded. I've never done this before - what needs to be done?

Give the Grant Deed back to the Grantor after collecting your $10 fee. Recording is not the responsibility of the Notary Public. If they ask you how to record the document refer them to the phone book. They can call the County Recorder and get instructions.

There can be some hefty charges associated with that... a tax transfer fee is due in addition to the actual 'recording fee'. If this is for a person, David is right. If associated with a signing, then they should have sent you a blank check that you fill in for the fee required... and you should be paid well for this service.

Title company has requested taht I do the recording for them
First the recording office for my county is about 15 minutes away so no problem.
Title company sends me check(s) for estimated closing amount, checks made out to county recording office. Call recording office and they can tell you how much they charge. Title company wanted copy of recorded documents so it was extra cost.
Amount sent to me has been over (no refund) or short I put out funds. Title company I worked with paid me what I put out with a week, along with my fee.
Depending on many factors this can be a pain in the neck waiting in line(s) going from office to another etc. If you are going to do it, make sure you trust the company to get re-inbursed and that everything is their One time they forgot the legal description.
