AngelinaAz ~ Matricula Consular
I know we've discussed this a few times and you asked a question a while back what I still thought about the Matricul Consular. I just had an opportunity to see one of the new Matricula Consular (MC) cards and they are worthless as ID as I believe you mentioned. I hadn't seen one of the new ones and it appears that in his zeal to implement his economic policy of sending his citizens to foreign lands to send back wealth Vicente Fox simplified the MC, made it easier to obtain and made it worthless as identification. This was somewhat disussed in another posting, just thought I'd pass it along. I agree that this should not be used a source of id. If Mexico's own banks have a problem with them then...
Cedulars or Matriculas are not the most safe. My mom had a cedular before she became a citizen. I am sure they look a little different now.
Not the most secure document.

Other countries have their own form of matriculas... but the metircula is mostly used my Mexicans.

Discussed????
I am so sorry! I was replying to a specific discussion Angelina and I had a few months ago. I didn't realize that everything that needed to be said was already said and my comment was totally superfluous!

Re: Discussed????
My comment was not to slight you at all Mr. Charles or to think that your comments were "superfluous." I just spoke to someone else today, in a thread about id for a signing.
So I just added the links I directed her way, to see if that may help, that's it. Nothing more or less.

Not a problem. The MC has changed and Mexico has ID probs!
My prefacing the comment with Angelina's name was to bring attention to the fact that the post was directed to a specific person regarding a specific comment in the past. I respect Angelina's opinions and we had discussed Matriculas at length many many moons ago. I just wanted to let Angelina and anyone who had been privy to those posts that I had seen a new Matricula Consular and that I agreed with Angelina that it was useless as identification. I have very close relations with the family of a former Governor of Nayarit as well as several members of the judiciary in Jalisco. The Matricula Consular used to be a very important document without which it was impossible to get a Mexican passport. I don't know about other countries but the MC was a serious document with adequate identification. Recently Mexico has made major changes to its identification documents and the MC is useless now in Mexico they rely on the Voter ID card for most transactions. I own property in Mexico and spend a fair amount of time there and conduct substantial business including representing Mexican Insurance companies here and in Mexico. Yes I am licensed to sell insurance in Mexico and I can insure both vehicles and real property. Identification is as big an issue in Mexico today as it is in the US especially with the problem Mexico has with illegal aliens both from the US and from Central and South America.

Re: Not a problem. The MC has changed and Mexico has ID probs!
Hey Mr. Charles,
Thanks so much for your explanation as you did not have to give one, so that's kind of you. When you posted your post, I has just ended a conversation regarding Matriculas with another NSA. When I saw your post, I just said to myself "I might as well pass these links along."
I share your sentiments and my family also owns and conducts business in Central America, and we've seen scam use of "Cedulars" and other make shift id's and documents.
I've been doing alot of research for another project and looking at documentaries on immigrant smuggling and fraud.
So I agree Matriculas aren't the best form of id- so easy to get, i don't care how much they upgrade them as you've stated. Also the infamous DL certificates (another discussion this week), seem to be causing so much havoc.
Many family come here for a better life as my family did, so I do feel for some of the situations I witness with members of my families as well as friends who seek residence here or citizenship- not as easy. My late grandfather ensured that all of his children become citizens and encouraged family friends and compadres to do the same. I am grateful. He was a smart man.
Anyway, thanks again for the post. Wasn't trying to be instrusive, just a hot topic.
Good night Senor.

Charles... Superfluous?????
no way... that's MY designation!
The matricula is definately a big pain in the patooty out here. Although it is as worthless as the plastic it is printed on as far as the ID goes... (I mean you can send in a picture and order one online for goodness sake)... the only thing PREVENTING it from being a valid ID in AZ at this point is that it lacks a physical description. That's kind of scary if you ask me.
Anyway... yes Charles... I forgive you for spanking me with your intellectual superiority, slapping me with your international connections and then making me look like I was an imbecile with an embosser. You only scarred me a little.

Re: Charles... Superfluous????? Moi, surely you jest!
Angelina you shame me, I had never any intentions of doing any of those things, I hold you in utmost respect. The matricula consular was a serious document at one time, I had one presented the other day while doing an insurance transaction and you are right about the plastic. They used to be a paper document with a physical description and all kinds of signatures and stamps. The one I saw was just a photo in a heat sealed pouch not wat I had been used to seeing. Of course I don't see those very often, I'm not even sure what they use them for today with the voting cards doing duty of ID. Any way, if I transgressed I apologize profusely. TTFN

Charles, in all seriousness... I never looked into what it used to be but I believe you... and it doesn't surprise me one bit. I'm sure it will keep changing as time goes on... I just hope it changes back.
No apologies necessary...
As to the 'utmost respect' you speak of.... geez, now I'm really going to have to live up to it and watch my p's and q's... no more trashy talk for me I promise. Well... for today. Well... for an hour at least.
