Business Card Scanner?

I have been pondering getting a small business card scanner. This would help me to get the umpteen million cards I've collected organized.

Every product I look at needs to be hooked up via usb in order for the scanner to work. I was thinking how great it would be to use this for scanner borrower ID at a signing (but I don't want to carry a laptop). I've scoured the internet looking for one that will work with/without the computer being hooked up, but I'm having trouble finding it.

Anybody use one of these little gadgits? Anybody know of one that will work by itself and mantain the image in memore (to be hooked up to the computer later)? Opinions? Ideas?

Why would you want to store someone's license for more than a day? I as a borrower, would even be more concerned about handing over my license if I saw you scan it into a "gizmo"

there is no need to store it for more than a day. It's just a means of getting a good clear copy of the borrower's id without a copy machine or digital camera.

If borrowers are going to be worried about their ID's being copied/scanned.... they'd be upset about giving you a copy of their ID or you taking a picture with a digital camera.

Most have been instructed by the LO

that a copy is needed, but to either scan or shoot a picture may add a bit more nervousness to the situation.

Re: Most have been instructed by the LO

I agree. I'm a little squeamish about having so many photocopies of borrowers' IDs being made and even more so about digital pictures. What if some time down the road the borrowers find themselves victims of ID theft? If the notary had made a digital copy of their IDs, they would one of the first to be suspect. And is it just me, or does it seem like it is more often signing services requesting photocopies of IDs than escrow/title cos or lenders...?

As for ID theft, what is to prevent anyone handling documents from making copies of anything they want in the first place? I would be just as worried about that as I would be of anyone scanning my license for inclusion in the loan package. That's what the GLB is all about, a policy and commitment to safeguard borrowers information. And I'm not talking about background checks since that isn't part of the GLB from what I can see.

Re: Most have been instructed by the LO

Must just be you.
The SS is not going to request ID copies unless instructed to do so by the lender or the title company.

I had a borrower 3 weeks ago refuse to provide me the photocopy of his license which was required by both the lender and the title company. His LO had informed him of the requirement as had the title company. I asked for the license copy and the borrower refused and said he did not feel comfortable including a copy with the package.

He asked what I was doing when I started putting the docs, pens and seal away. I said that since the license copy was a funding requirement that he refused to provide the loan would not close so I did not intend to waste my time. I called the lender and informed him that the borrower refused to provide the copy of his ID. Loan office said to leave and I would be paid in full. 3 days later I got the reschedule. First thing I did was ask for the copy and he gave it to me but was still not happy.

Go to http://callforhelptv.com and they have a section for "Gadgets and Gizmos".
If you can't find what you are looking for on the website, you can always post
your question.

There is another "gadgets and gizmo guy" that I can't remember at the moment.
When I find it I will let you know.

Distant1...

This is exactly what I'd like to have, but also have the software to work without being hooked up to a computer via USB port.

I am really looking for one with an internal battery source and the ability to store the scan internally or on a USB Jump drive.

Thanks for your help.
