CA Apostille Service
I was on a teleconference this evening with other notaries and they were discussing broadening your notary appeal by getting certified to do apostilles. Is anyone familiar with this? Does anyone offer this additional service?

You don't need to be certified to do apostilles. Anyone can get an apostille - it's done by the SOS. You get your notaryized document authenticated at the county clerks office and then mail it to the SOS or if you have a local SOS branch in your city, you can go there and get an apostille.

Um... looks like you got that a bit wrong Barbara. If a document is notarized by a California notary Public, you don't need to authenticate it by the county clerk - just need to send it to the SOS. ONLY IF you are taking it to one of the four regional office of the SOS for apostille, you will need to get it authenticated by the county clerk/recorder (of the county on the notary's stamp) But you are exactly right on that no further certification is needed by the notary for notarizing a doc that requires apostille.

Re: CA Apostille Service - Mike...
Thanks for the info... I've only done one and took it to SD SOS office. My learning experience for the day

I thought I could broaden my notary appeal by showering daily.
In California not all documents to be apostilled need to be notarized. Anyone needing an apostille on a document can mail it to the Secretary of State along with $26.
