HUGE mistake!!!!!!!!

I made a huge mistake last night. The right to cancel ends on the 19th not the 18th and I didn’t change it. I just realized that and doc.s are shipped. What can I do? And what should I expect? I feel lost. when borrowers signed they dated the 15th though which is the date they signed!!!!!!!

If these were edocs, you can go have them sign another one with today's date and they will only be ONE day late. Because if you wait till Monday when they get them and they discover your error, the borrower may loose
rate lock or something. If they sign 12/16/2006 RTC will be 12/20/2006. Of course you will have to send it today before fed ex pickup. JMHO.

At the risk of causing a ruckos here....I would quick print up the RTC's, head for the BO's, explain what I did, have them date and sign with the date they signed everything else (doesn't require your seal so they can sign whatever date they want), FedEx them on my dime and call and explain what happened Monday a.m.

Nothing will happen. The RTC expires three days after the last event occurs. It doesn't make any difference if the date in the cancellation paragraph is earlier than the three days, the borrower still has three days.

You may want to have the borrowers resign the RTC with the proper dates, but don't loose any sleep over it.

PAW

thank you, I feel a bit better. I also called and checked and the docs were not picked yet. I changed the date to the right one and initialed it but ofcourse the B's didn't intial. the thing is they signed and i let them know they have until the 19th.
I was SHAKING I almost started CRYing. I never made a mistake in all my signings, and I didn't want this tiny one be my first.

Get over it quick or you'll hate this business and be afraid to work.

The most productive people make the most mistakes. They also know how to correct them efficiently. You know you have become knowlegible in your field when people ask you how to correct mistakes.

Re: ruru...

I think you compiled your mistake by initialed the change yourself instead of BO. Technically speaking, PAW is correct, but the lender would want their paper done right.

My advice is to print a fresh page, make arrangement with BO to have it resign & initials correctly (with the original date). Call TC on Monday to tell them you caught and corrected the error, fax them a copy then send the original on your own dime.

Re: ruru...

I agree with PAW and Brenda. Also, if you haven't already done so, I would call the borrower just to let them know they have until Wednesday, midnight (not Tuesday) - and you can use PAWs explanation to assure them that it won't be a problem.

That's how you remain error free.

The problem was (I assumed) docs were date the 14th signed yesterday the 15th and s/he forgot to change date which also required BO initials.

This is to Everybody

You don't beleive how good I feel now. Thank you. Iam doing very good in this business, but recently I need to do more, it is a bad time for me if a SS stop calling me because of a mistake.

Re: the most productive people make the most mistakes ...

I personally don't think this is something to be proud of in the notary signing business. The signing business isn't the same as learning a sport, i.e., to ski, skate, etc. where if you don't fall down, then you are not pushing yourself to get any better.

"I personally don't think this is something to be proud of in the notary signing business"

But it is a business and has to be treated as such. And productivity is an essential part of business.

It would be nice if we all had 100% perfect signings all the time, but that kind of quality is VERY expensive to accomplish. I'm sure not going to tack on an extra 5 hours per week triple checking my work. There has to be a balance of quality and efficiency and I'm comfortable with the balance I've achieved. It's cheaper to fix the occasional mistake than it is to try to ensure that a mistake never gets made.

We've all encountered the carelessness and mistakes that happen frequently in this industry. And we're human, mistakes can happen. If we know what we're doing the mistakes we make are very likely going to be minor ones and no big deal to correct.

Carolyn, what I said was: **The most productive people make the most mistakes. They also know how to correct them efficiently. **

I am trying to figure out if you took the post out of context on purpose, or if it was a mistake.

Either way, I think my point was clear...and, so was yours.

Mistakes and the people who never make them...

I don't think anyone is proud of their mistakes. I think we are all ashamed of them. It must be nice to live in your world and be you. Never a mistake, perfect all the time. Yeah right.

You used to post often on this board and had so much good advice for everyone. Now the only time you post is to offer a negative view point or harsh words. What happened to you?

Re: Mistakes and the people who never make them...

I agree with Beverly that no one is proud to make mistakes in this business, however, when you do slip up once in awhile, does it not make you more aware of what you are doing? I know that recently I had a really tiresome signing where the Borrower had a 2 month old baby and the wife had to sign marital docs. They kept stopping to try and attend to the baby and I think I used every extra copy that I had because the wife kept dating wrong, or signing off page (it was ridiculous). Anyway, by the end of the package, I was ready to go! Got home and realized that the wife had signed the RTC form in the cancel area. Boy, was I mad at myself for not catching this before I left! But the point of my story is, that after doing this job everyday error free and then making one mistake it seems to make you more aware and you definitely will pay more attention to what you are doing! I went back out the next day and package was sent as usual - no harm done. You will make mistakes - however, the worse mistake in this biz is losing your head! Fix it and move on!

Thank you, Lenelle - that's what I meant when I said: **The most productive people make the most mistakes. They also know how to correct them efficiently. **

Keep your head and get it fixed...that's how you keep your errors down. In no way did I mean to imply that having errors was something to be proud of.
