Marketing

I have been a notary for a year and am considering offering my services directly to title companies ans mortgage brokers. Would it be a good approach and meet with the loan officers or title reps and offer incentives to use my service? Would this be something that they might find valuable to them to place a face to the name? Any ideas would help. I live in a small community in the central coast, but there are MANY loan offices and titile companies. Your comment would be appreciated.

Check your state laws regarding inducements...

Florida has very specific rules regarding "incentives" (inducements), including annual dollar amounts.

Read the RESPA laws. You don't want to invite the Feds into your business. Incentives may = trouble. JMHO.

Exactly, Becca... everyone should tread lightly in this area. I've seen one particular TC in a heap of trouble for the expensive bottle of wine they were 'gifting' each Realtor at closing. Some agents I knew had CASES of this stuff... and the limit in FL is $25 per year, the last time I checked Smile
I was a Marketing Exec. for a large TC here in SW FL. 50-yard line tickets to the Dolphins, Martini parties hosted by said TC at the location of Realtors choosing, sizable gift certs at 5-star restaurants and a new laptop are just some of the 'inducements' I've seen. Dollar-store candy jars filled with Starlight mints don't apply Wink

I think your use of "...offer incentives to use my service" got everyone's attention.

You should think more along the lines of offering "courtesy closings" when their available staff become overwhelmed or need someone offsite/out of the office. Just let them know that they can call on you for services if the need arises.
