Minor update to VT notary handbook and FAQ

There are new versions of the Vermont Notary Handbook and the FAQ at the SOS's website. The update is dated 12/07/2006. As far I can see, the changes to the handbook consist of dropping the old page 1, which had some text about the oath of office for President Coolidge being administered by his father (a notary), the addition of hyperlinks to a notary commission application form, and a hyperlink to a list of county clerks. Finally, on the old page 13/new page 12, India has been removed from the list of countries that accept apostilles.

In the FAQ, the hyperlink to the application form has been added.

Of course, there could be other changes I missed.

Bottom line: if you will be around other notaries who can administer your oath, print the application and mail it to the county clerk (along with your $20 check) and save yourself a trip to the county clerk's office.

MA notary public info on Governer's Legal Counsel website

If you are looking for info on how to become a notary in MA or MA notary laws, don't look on the MA SOS's website.

One must go to the "Office of the Governor's Counsel" website at: http://www.mass.gov/legal/notaries.html

I think we're the only state (oops commonwealth) where the SOS has no jurisdiction over notaries.

Re: MA notary public info on Governer's Legal Counsel website

Glad to know that someone knows that they are in a "Commonwealth" and not
a "State".
It's fun to read some of the websites -- some have just copied information from
other websites that state that they are in a Commonwealth... when they are
in a State not a Commonwealth.
