NCS/Placer Title email I rec'd & my reply
I, too, received the email from Placer today with regard to them lowering their fees, and rationalizing it by saying that they're STILL paying more than some of their competitors! Too funny! Here is my response to Placer:
Dear Ms. Matsel I am in receipt of your email dated 12/14/06 regarding the modification of signing fees.
While I respect Placer Title's position, I regret to inform you that I will no longer be able to accommodate closing requests in the Collier and Lee County areas for your company within your new fee parameters. The market in my area has not changed so drastically that my services are worth (nearly) 1/2 of my standard eDoc fee, as is evidenced by my very busy closing calendar.
I have enjoyed my relationship with NCS and Placer Title thusfar, and hope we can continue to do business with one another. You may continue to call me with scheduling requests, but my fees remain unchanged.
Kindest Regards,
Lisa Prestegard

Great answer! Question? Did they say that they were lowering THEIR fees? Or the FEES they PAY to the signing agent? If they were actually charging the borrower less, I may be inclined to lower my fees. Nahhh...now that I think about it, I truly don't think I can do this for less. I need to at least 'break even' on a job.

Correction
Dorothy Matsel of the Michigan Network sent me this email. Mea Culpa. I have since forwarded it to Placer. Thanks for correcting me, Dorothy! Lisa

Here is the email I sent in reply to Placer Title. (they've not responded, naturally) *************** Thank you for your recent email regarding the lowering of the fees you will pay your signing agents. As a business person, I set my own fees and am not bound by fee reductions by companies that need a signing agent. If my fees are more than you can pay, you will need to find someone in this area who charges less. I have 4 years of experience to offer the companies that hire me. If you prefer a cheaper, less-experienced signing agent, that's your decision. But, in order to use MY services, you'll need to pay the fees I set. Under no circumstances is $15 ever going to be adequate for emailed documents. Regards, Julie B. Dailey, Certified Signing Agent Notary Public, States of Kansas & Missouri
