NNA Conference

I cannot attend, but wish I could.

I would like to stand outside and distribute fliers on how the NNA is working to line
its own pockets by forcing notaries to pay it fees for background checks.

I would like to point out how NNA is aligned with the big title companies that this
will likely work to drive down fees for notaries over time.

I would like to point out the ownership of the NNA and that it is not really accountable to the notaries.

I'll chip in to finance your trip and bail bond money. Altho' I really don't have a problem with paying for a BGC (well, yeah, I do, considering I already have several of them). I object to the tactics they've used to attempt to get 'compliance' (with lining their pockets) and I mostly, strongly object to having to pay to join the NNA & the NSA & to get certified (after 12 years in the biz) before I can get their fool CBC. Actually, I hope the most outstanding thing about the upcoming conference is that NOBODY ATTENDS. Now THAT might send a strong message!

I have been a Notary for 28 years, California, now KY, and thioose questions on the Certification test, do not apply in KY, they want additional money for the study book, so I am having a time passing the Certification.

Just answer the questions like you were in CA and you'll be fine. Ain't right, but it's the NNA way~~

Don't waste your time or your money on certification. Especially through the money grubbing NNA. Your 28 years as a notary is far more valuable than their stupid and worthless certification.

Re: NNA Conference - Patty

Don't bother with the book! When I thought (mistakenly) that I needed certification I just bought the online test. Didn't even study for it...just took it and passed right away.

Agree with Cali that your experience is worth it's weight in gold and the certification is nothing but a profit center for the NNA.

If you feel like certification is crucial - look into what Notary Rotary is offering.

That's not a bad idea

That should be where the next Southern CA notary luncheon is held. Screw Marie Callender's, do corndogs and picket signs!

30 yrs notary, 18 as attorney-trained, 12 as Mobile Notary

It is laughable that the NNA is convincing title companies that their "certified" newbies are better than notaries who have been in this business for many many years. "Certified" to the NNA simply means they've been paid a nice chunk of money, the wannabe notary has read a book, taken a multiple choice test immediately thereafter while the information is still easy to recall and they are not under any performance pressure like they would have at the signing table, paid another hefty chunk of money, had a rudimentary background check done, and is now qualified as the best notary in the business. It's like having a high school student read a book on chemistry, take a test immediately thereafter while the words are still very fresh in his or her mind, and then say the student is now qualified to work as a scientist for NASA. Age and experience is better than a test every time!

Yes age and experience plays a huge role in the notary world but as a "newbie" I take offense to what you are posting. It is not our fault that the NNA has worked with some of the major title companies and are using use CERTIFIED notaries.

***but as a "newbie" I take offense to what you are posting. ***

Frankly Tamiako, you have no call to take offense. If you are so stupid as to disregard advice from someone as experienced as Sharon, then you are on your own.

Stupid is as stupid does. Claiming that the 'fault' is not yours just re-inforces the problems in the notary industry.

Your post sounds so foolish, but sadly, you don't get it. After you try to work this business for six months or so and look back on this post? You'll see what I mean.

I hope you take your coveted "certification" right to the bank. Yep. Good luck.

I did not put a posting out there to be called stupid and believe me I have been out the for more than six months and I have been doing rather well. Thank you. To sit there and bash other notaries HOW PROFESSIONAL IS THAT!!! It is not the fault of the new notaries that do go ahead and pay the cheap fees that the NNA want and then we go to work non-stop as I have!!!!!

Is this written in English for comprehension?

It IS the fault of "new notaries" to not investigate what they are entering into. If you didn't do so (and pay "cheap fees"Wink and trust the NNA? That is all about you.
Just learn from a mistake. Take the advice of those that have been there and learn. That's what this forum is about.

To be so angry about YOUR mistake is taking it out on those that can help you. Hey, if you want to cut off your own nose to spite your face, go for it.

Same range of long-term numbers here and I have to laugh at 'certified'. Someone not too long ago asked me to send her any 'certifications' I had. I had to reply and tell her that I was not certified however I had xxxxx experience and did she truly think that someone who took a test and perhaps never actually touched a set of loan docs was more qualified than I am in closing a loan. Of course she replied that I was more than qualified and didn't need to send anything in. Sometimes these people just don't think what they are asking for. As to Tamika (?) I don't even understand what she was saying in this thread. Although I'm no one to throw stones about anyone elses sentence structure, hers truly is lacking.

No offense to Newbies...offense was meant for some companies

The ones who act as if a brand-new notary with little or no experience but with "certification" by some for-profit organization is sure to be better than someone with years of experience but no "certification". Sue_pa said it very well.
