NNA and 12.01.2006 Deadline
We are now 20 days into the month. I just wanted to see if anyone signed up to have a background check through the NNA if the are experiencing higher call volume? I would also like to hear from people that haven’t signed up are you experiencing a downturn? I have not signed up and was looking for feedback. I have not seen a fall off and I am still doing business with the title companies that are listed on the NNA’s background checklist. I just wanted to see if the investment in the background check will pay off in higher call volume. Any feedback would be helpful.

Alot of the companies are now waiting until January 1, 2007 and some companies are doing their own background checks starting in January.

I doubt very seriously that anybody is waiting for Jan to start asking for background checks. I work for many title/escrow etc. I also talk to a great deal at 123 and I make it my business to ask them about this and none of them know what I am talking about. My business has not fallen off at all. I have a friend that works for many signing services and she told me that not one of them have mentioned this BC business to her. She says she is busier than ever.
In my opinion this was a way for the NNA to recoop some of their decreasing revenue during these slow times. Time will tell.
Happy Holidays!!

Not a member so no BGC. No decrease in calls... and am still doing signings for the co's listed on NNAs BGC list. To date, they haven't asked for any BGC.

Nary a peep from my TC's...
and they all use the major players in the Title Underwriting game, such as Chicago Title, LandAmerica, Stewart, Old Republic, and The FUND. I have not only NOT been asked to have a BGC, I have inquired with each and every TC I perform closings for and have been told categorically that "no word whatsoever has come in the form of a memo, phone call, directive or demand that their employees OR subcontractors submit to a BGC, through the NNA or otherwise." And I heard this from people I TRUST, not NNA money-grabbers.
As for me, I will wait and see. The NNA is backpeddling nicely these days, what with their newest email from the President and all. Frankly, it looked to me like a thinly-veiled 'mea culpa', perhaps at the urging of the FTC? Hmmm.... Yeah, I think I'll wait

I guess I'm off their mailing list. A few weeks ago I received an email warning me of the impending deadline. I replied to the "author" of the letter by mailing it to variations of her name "[e-mail address]" I also cc:d it to "all[e-mail address]". In my email I politely told them that there was no mandate for a BGC, and that there were recommendations for safeguarding of privacy information, etc, etc. I closed by telling them that they were just out to take peoples money by these false claims and by inundating the market with notaries in search of the "big bucks." So now I guess I'm on their s__t list because they don't talk to me anymore. Anyone wanna chat instead?
