Lisa, I wish I could help you, but I'm not a techie either.
Try calling Teresa's son. His email is on the group site and Teresa, I'm sure, would be happy to give you Mark's phone number. Mark is a techie and might be able to help you.

Ususally it's just one jumper on the motherboard. If you google "disable onboard video" you will see many links of directions; maybe one will be your board. If not, I'd call Dell if you don't have the manual.

Well....
I know just enough (and not enough) to be dangerous. Not having ever done this I can not speak through experience, however....
I think you can go to your Control Panel, Select System, click on Hardware Tab, and select Device Manager. At that point you should be able to see your video card and disable it.

Re: Well....
Deleting the driver in the device manager only deletes the software driver for the onboard video. There is generally a jumper on the motherboard that needs setting. Just deleting the driver won't stop any hardware conflict and as soon as you reboot windows it would re-install your device driver anyway.

Thank you for that info - I retired from 40 years in the software industry - consequently where my thinking is - you have just educated me "just a little bit more" - thanks.

Techie 101
Often with third party or stocked motherboard, the on board graphic/sound should automatically disabled once a PCI/AGP card is detected. Depend on the age of your computer and sometimes proprietary manufactured (Dell, Compaq, Emachines, etc) computers are made not to last forever so you have to spend $ on new ones.
Turn off computer...install the new graphic card...plug in the monitor...turn on the computer...If you get display on the monitor...install driver for the new graphic card.

Re: Techie 101
That's the problem... I did exactly what you said and I have no visuals on my monitor Black screen. So, I removed the new graphics card and turned the unit back on, and STILL no visuals. It looks like the on-board graphics won't work now, either.
*sigh* now what?
It's my daughters computer, and we have a week of holiday vacation left. She will drive me insane without her computer!
