OT: next door neighbors house burnt down
I woke up this morning and took the dogs out, only to see my neighbor's house across the street in flames. I called 911 and my husband and I got everyone out. Even though the fire dept is 3 blocks from my house. It was too late. The cause of the fire, the dryer. The dryer was in the garage and that is where the fire started. Her car is destroyed also, it was in the garage. We even had to get the people in the house next to them out and the fire was spending to the garage next door. It melted the cover on his boat that was in the yard next to the garage. No one was hurt and everyone his safe. They had relatives that they could stay with and they had there car packed to go out of town today. Please clean you dryer vents NOW, this is so easy to do but you would surprised how many people do not think about it.

Oh how sad for your neighbors! A dryer vent should be cleaned out at least twice a yr, and 4 times or more per yr. if you have a large family. (Per my appliance repairman).

Re: OT: And don't use the
And don't use the plastic dryer vent hoses. My friends house burnt down because some tooth picks that got caught in the dryer hose caught on fire.
Use the metal dryer vent hoses and, put some metal screen to the vent outside, so little critters (like mice, etc.) won't climb in the vent hose.

I'm always saying my husband is a Polly Anna, but he's taught me a thing or two about safety in the home. I know I can't put a load of clothes in the dryer without cleaning the vent and running the dust buster or I'm busted for not doing what i need to do.... always clean the dryer vent, change your filters, never put bulbs into lamps or appliances greater than reccommended, whoever lights a candle is responsible for putting it out, etc.... My family is in construction, insurance work primarily. It's very sad to see the accidents that happen and the lives takes because we are careless.
