Screwed by Nations Direct/Old Republic Title Sara Kershner

Why Nations Direct/Old Republic likely cost Chase a ton fee today.

Nations Direct/ Sara Kershern of Old Republic title. You call me at 2:30pm for an immediate rush signing 3pm edoc signing for $100.00.

I do not even get the documents until a few minutes until 3pm.

The documents do not even finish printing until close to 4pm.

The borrower has left for a restaurant for the 3pm(I find out then that one of your other notaries has overslept, not showered and stood up the borrower but not of this is disclosed to me.)

I call the restarauant and the borrowers employer. They tell me the borrower is at the restaurant and there is no way to reach her.

Sara tell me to keep print and going. She is trying to reach the lender. Thus, Sara is aware there is no way I can discuss this transaction with the borrower before I take the time to print this transaction.

The borrower returns across town to her employer. She want to go over the documents by phone before meeting and is furious that the first notary stood her up.

I walk her over the transaction that I printed two sets up(two hours into this ordeal.)

She indicates it is not what she was told. I call Sara Kershener at OLD REPUBLIC Title part of the Nations Direct team. We go over the documents to find out the what the escrows are and again I call the borrower back and give them the figures. The borrower is at work so I have to wait for calls back. Sara wants me to call her back if the borrower is not going to sign.

Borrower is mad since she was told she would have the documents to review in advance of the signing and does not want to be forced into anything.

The borrower tells me 3 hours into it that there is no way she is going to sign this.

I call Sara back indicate it is not going to sign and ask for a $50.00 fee. Sarah says she is going to pay me $20.00 since no trip was made. Hello….I spent three hours trying to sort this mess out for you. Do you know what my cellphone bill is alone between Nations, Old Republic and the borrower trying to save your transaction and cover the screw up your firm/affiliates made with another notary?

My fee is $50.00. If you send me $20.00. Do NOT EVER CALL ME AGAIN. Remove me from your database or I will sue you for running up my cellphone bill with your stupid low ball signings inquires! I have done a number of signings for you. Last minute and into neighborhoods that most notaries do not want to go into at night.
I hope Chase realizes the full impact of what Nations Direct/Old Republic has cost them. They lost a loan today with some pretty big fees. So likely the first low ball notary that Nations Direct hired cost Chase a bundle.

Sara, I was back and forth on the phone with you several times this afternoon. On hold with your assistant while I waited for you to finish with other calls running up my cellphone bill. Do you really think it is ethical to use up three hours of my time and pay at $20.00 print fee?

David, they don't set your fees... YOU do.
Your print/cancel fee is $50. Bill them accordingly and do not let them slide on this.
Forget your cell phone bill (charges)... that won't fly. They didn't contract you to use your cell phone. They DID, however, contract you to print docs.
Your print fee is $50, and you graciously are not charging them for the 'no-notice cancellation'. That's my take, anyway Wink
Go get 'em

"Remove me from your database or I will sue you for running up my cellphone bill with your stupid low ball signings inquires!"

If you want to be taken seriously, stop making nonsensical threats like this.

And you should have a cell phone plan that gives you more than enough minutes to cover stuff like this. Which I'm guessing you do, and that all these calls didn't cost you an extra penny.

NationsDirect willing to pay $100 vs. $40 for a signing should have been a big red flag to begin with.

David, here is what I would have done differently than you did. First I would never accept e-docs for $100 - minimum is $150. I don't feel anyone can complain about low fees if they are the ones that agree to accept the fees. If you feel $100 is a low ball fee, why did you take the order?

While I don't know what equipment you've got, 99% of docs should print in 15 minutes tops with the correct equipment - not an hour.

Your post seemed to indicate that you completely go over the loan details ahead of time. I never do that. I take what was sent to me and the borrowers can look at it in black & white. When this lady said she wasn't going to meet with you until she knew her final numbers, that was your cue to bow out and tell her to call her LO. I would have then called my contact and said to have the LO contact her as she wasn't willing to meet with me. I've got no idea why you were making phone calls and being a go between when you weren't even in the lady's presence.

Why do you have cell phone issues? if you were in your office, why weren't you using a land line - although again I wouldn't have been making or receiving calls about this. Anyone that uses their cell phone for business should have sufficient minutes that a flury of calls doesn't put you over.

Just saying how different people handle their orders in different ways.

I only have one thing to add.
Don't go over terms with the BR over the phone. This is not your job. If they have questions then have them call their LO and discuss it. Period. The end. That's all. Ever.
