at the end of the closing terms is says Agknowledged: then an area for a "settlement Agent " to sign and date. that isn't the borrower, it is for the mortgage company correct?

No dear, it is for escrow. You are not the settlement agent, nor is the mortgage company. You are a notary.

I'm glad you know that 'settlement agent' isn't the borrower. Good for you.

okay...first signing

I didn't see the first post.

How did you get into the business - do you have prior mortgage/escrow/title experience?

Re: okay...first signing

began as a notary I had friends in the mortgage business that convinced me to look into it. and have since moved so they are not close for me to ask them questions

Kelli, that's too bad that your friends aren't available to you now.

Please read thread 33325. all of it. You're very green and that thread will probably scare you to death that you even attempted one signing.

Normally, posts like your's get either the cold shoulder or some really sharp criticism. Avoid all that and do some HOMEWORK. That thread contains almost everything a soul needs to be a NSA.

You're not just a notary, you're responsible for representing the biggest committment people enter into - a home mortgage. It's a serious undertaking. Take that responsibility seriously and educate yourself.

There are many nice people here who will help. But no one wants to help someone that doesn't help themselves first.

okay, now you're scaring me, alot

read my response, thread no 167298.

I don't think you should be doing signings, at all. It's not fair to the people you sign...you have a long way to go before you're competent.

Re: okay...first signing

Kelli, it's understandable to be nervous, but it's pretty clear you don't know what you should be doing as a SA. I agree with TitleGal and don't think you are ready to perform a signing. Having said that, it's probably too late since you already have a loan packet and don't know what to do with it. Use the orange search button. It really can help.
If you take TitleGal's suggestion to use the "orange search button" at the top of the page, it can bring up previously answered questions to you. You can also do a search of the message #'s recommended and read. Everyone on this board has access to the best advise around and all you have to do is do a search. You can try a "query" of your own and get instant answers.
You can change the subject from "topic" to individual messages which will give you a better idea of what you are dealing with. You will feel more confident in your abilities once you begin to understand what is involved and what your level of expertise needs to be.

Kelli that's great! Smile Caution note, make sure you check & dbl check your packet before you drop at courier service. One missed sign block or initials on pages will mean a return trip & it's always better to catch it & fix it yourself right away before sending to receiver. Congrats and best wishes to you.

Kelli, some people on here forget what it is like to be a newbie. If you would like a mentor please email me.
