e/o insurance

At the time I became a notary I was working for a finance company. So the company took care of any and all documentation for getting my notary seal and e/o insurance etc. (I no longer work for that company. ) I am wondering if I still have e/o insurance. Now don't think of me as a moron yet. I called up to my local notary office and they said that I should still have it from the company I used to work for. So how do I find out who my e/o insurance is with??

p.s. be nice!! i've posted before and good grief some people forget they were once newbie too with goofy questions.

p.p.s. How much e/o insurance should I have??

They may well have just taken out an e&o rider on you while you were performing for them, then switched it to whomever replaced you. Even if they didn't, the coverage they had on you is likely either expired or close to it. Best to just start fresh with your own policy; I suggest $100K as a good amount.

If it was in your name...... which most likely it was.... then you should still be covered unless if it expired, or your employer cancelled it on you.

I have $10,000.00 coverage only.

Hi, Tammy-

There is an E & O policy for notaries, which covers notorial acts and has the usual exclusions. Then there is business E&0 for someone who, say, generates documents. Personally, I would not expect to be covered by a policy I did not have in my hand with my name as the Insured. JMHO

Re: How much should I have

Tammyky, that is a personal question and not answered by a blanket statement. It's what you feel comfortable with. Keep in mind e/o ONLY covers strictly notary errors, not those made in the signing agent business...that would be your business liability (Commercial General Liability) or business E&O coverage. Try the search feature, this has been discussed previously several times.

Why is it that the NNA charges $416.00 for the same coverage that Travelers charges $170.00 for?
