what would you do....

Got a call for a last minute signing, they had to scan and email the package to kinkos because I was already on the road. Picked up the package and the refinanace was 147 pages, not including the borrowers copies.
What do you all do when this happens to you? I already had a closing scheduled with the same company, should I let this one slide or charge them more.

Your edocs fee should take care of that cost. Generally the fee in our area for Kinkos is .08 per page and the standard fee for an edocs charge is generally between $15 and $25 ...

Re: FallingPetal - I don't know where you got your info, but

it might be YOUR standard fee, but it's certainly not MY standard fee.

Your fees should be your fees. Sometimes you'll get a bigger than usual package, sometimes you'll get a smaller than usual package. Don't sweat each individual signing.

i agree with the above and also sometimes the cost of doing business for future business has to be decided..... Unless you feel that you are giving yourself away to this company, it is the COB... but if you feel you are constantly not being paid your worth....YOU need to raise your rates and charge what you think you and your time are worth.

Re: actually...

sorry to disagree with everyone else, but I would inform the company that since you had to print at Kinko's and not on your own equipment, you will have to raise your rate a bit on this one. After all, Kinko's is probably more expensive than your own costs on your equipment. They should be understanding because 1) It's last minute, and 2) I strongly suspect that you are a good closer that they want to do the closing regardless of the extra cost. After all they called you and are a regular client. I wouldn't increase the fee by doubling your normal edoc fee, but I would probably ask for an additional $15-20 bucks to cover 2 copies run at Kinkos. Or maybe charge them 1/2 Kinko's total fee. Something like that. But if you let it slide you run the risk of them taking advantage and doing it again (and again, and again...), esp. if it's a regular client.

Re: actually...

I see both sides now and maybe I am just sick of not being "informed". I told her next time I would have to charge more. It was a Chase package with 100 docs from Chase and 47 title company docs.

Re: actually...

I had one last week that had 75 pages of broker docs. Unbelievable.

It is my opinion that just because the NSA accepted the signing knowing they would have to print elsewhere, doesn't make it the responsibility of the company to pay more. They didn't say it had to be printed at Kinkos, thus the increase in fee. Personally, I would eat the extra cost on this one, as if it were me, it would have been MY CHOICE to print somewhere other than my own office where supplies & equipment were already present. Same thing if my equipment broke down & I still accepted assignments but had to print at Kinkos. I would not pass on the extra charges because of my own problems whatever they may be. I'd just git r' done.

Melissa...

I was already out on the road, doing my 5 a day. I told her before the fact that they would have to be sent to kinkos. I blame part of this on myself and part on the signing company for not being open at 8pm when the docs were printed. This was for LSI and 100 pages of lenders docs were what I would consider "unnecessary docs" for me to have to print out. There were 4 copies of closing instructions in the package, that is nonsense.

I can appreciate that,

however, if the lender wants 200 pages printed, that's what they get. As for having to print at Kinkos, whether mentioned up-front or not, I still feel that is the SA's problem. The SA accepted the signing at the price offered/negotiated, regardless of how many pages were to be printed. It's a crap shoot. The SA could have said no can do & the SS would have called someone else that could have printed at home. Either way, I don't see how it's the SS fault that the docs were printed at Kinkos. That's the NSA's problem & cost of business for that particular transaction.

If printing at Kinkos is a regular thing for late-day appointments, the SA should work that into their pricing to cover costs.

What would I do? I would eat the additional cost as it was my fault the extra cost was incurred in the first place. If this is a case where docs were too late to be printed at home, that *might* be a different scenario, however I believe that too would be a case of setting a deadline & sticking to it.

Re: I can appreciate that,

Point taken....that is also another reason I rarely do work for signing services because they are the middle man with no idea of how big a package is. Next time (if there is one), I will look at how many pages are attached and if I can't get up with the signing service, I will leave a message and tell them to reassign, leaving the ball in their court. I guess that is another reminder that I get $150 per closing now (and 5 a day with that fee) with title companies and have to nickel and dime myself with the signing services.

I have also made a 125 page limit on my standard fee. Anything over that is an extra $25.

Script. Great my fee is X for edocs, up to 100 pages on a 1st with no fax backs, documents X hours before closing with a 50% cancellation fee. Please send me a written confirmation.

If it is over on pages, you have grounds for discussion. If there are faxed backs, you have grounds for discussion. If documents are late, it is your option.
