ATTENTION: WORM VIRUS THREAT!!!
According to media reports, a VERY SERIOUS worm virus is scheduled to hit all Microsoft Window users tomorrow, 2/3 (Friday) and every 3rd day of the month thereafter!
What makes this one unique (in addition to its destructive power), is that: 1.) It can "trick" anti-virus programs into allowing it in! 2.) It can then destroy these anti-virus programs and 3.) It can also duplicate "user- friendly" e-mails (and once opened the infection begins)!
That all ant-virus software needs to be revised today, the computer scanned, and/or all information needs to be saved on hard copy!
More information can be found on the various news websites!

Looks like Symantec Norton may be vulnerable in
particular and it appears tht they have taken steps to correct the vulnerability. I stopped using Norton Anti-virus a while back because fo its intrusiveness. The other anti-virus software companies appear comfortable that they are secure. Perhaps PAW could expand on this threat.

Nothing more to add from my perspective. I too have not renewed with Norton Anti-Virus and am now using on my desktops and laptops.

PAW...
I saw this report on the news last night, so I updated all my MS stuff (I finally installed XP SP 2 successfully,BTW), downloaded the Norton update and ran a complete scan.
Now, I ask you, am I safe? Kurt Fonger said if I did all this I would be okay.

Re: Norton Professional
I've been using Norton Professional for about 4-5 years now and am quite happy with it. Before I upgraded, I was using just plain Norton without any bells or whistles. That was when I had a rude awakening because I thought the only people who got viruses/worms were through e-mail attachments. Wrong. I got hit with the OpServe worm and what a mess. Norton's *de-worming* tool finally got rid of it, but it had done too much damage and my hard drive crashed.
With other viruses and worms that have been targeted to attack Norton, Professional has kept me save. I used McAffee for a short while, but was not happy with it's performance, at all. I also have my router firewall, Norton's firewall and one other one.

Strange ...
Don't know what happened when I typed in the name of the anti-virus program that I use, it got deleted from my previous post.
>>> am now using on my desktops and laptops. <<<
It should read "am now using AVG on my desktops and laptops."

I'm not Charles, but in my opinion....
The best Antispyware is Microsoft. Spybot is also good and free like Microsoft.
The other options for $$$ are Webroot, Ad-Aware (which has a basic free option), McAfee (Which I personally use because it does not corrupt you computer like Symantec), Trend Micro, and Allume.
I feel, however, just about any type of Antispyware is better than nothing. JMHO!!!
