Another dig at $50.00 signings
Sitting in my office between tax clients, when in walked a couple looking for a notary. I of course made myself available to them, escorted them to my desk and found they had a loan package through Charles Schwab Bank. Everything was tabbed for their signatures, all I had to do was notarize 4 docs. I charged them my allowable fee of $40.00 they paid me in cash and were on their way. Now why would I want to do a $50.00 signing with all of the attendent hassles of fax backs, spending gas money, etc, etc, etc, then hope to be paid on time by some SS who cries the blues about not making anything off of the deal? My point is don't sell yourself short, charge what you're worth and don't look back.

John - CA question for you...
I understand in California that a notarization, such as a Jurat or ACK is $10. It's $6 here in Texas. Is that per signature, or per notarization? I had a guy from CA come over the other night that used to be a notary in CA, but has now moved here. Anyway, he said that it was $10 per signature there, so if a husband and wife signed one piece of paper, he could charge $20. Am just wondering??!? Thanks.

Re: Fees
Jenny is correct. The fees prescribed by statute are the maximum, we are free to charge less or nothing at all. I figure $40.00 for less than 15 minutes work is just fine with me!

You are absolutely right. I am in NJ and although we are not allowed to charge $10.00 like CA (only $2.50); my quick notary jobs have really came through at times. I have notarized documents for several large companies within a 5 mile radius - work about 20 minutes - notarize 20 or more documents and get paid right on the spot.
It is everyone's choice to take a $50 E-doc signing or $90 Piggyback signing but as said time and time again..."it is each person's choice".

Re: if you accept a $50 signing just because its slow
you will have to turn down the big dollar signing when they call
