Cancellation fees

Just wondering how many of you charge or receive cancellation fees when a signing is cancelled at the last minute. I've had this happen too often lately. Thanks.

Hi Val,

I charge cancellation fees. If i'm enroute, then my cancellation fee is a little bit higher.

If I have the docs and they cancel within two hours then I charge $40.00 or 30% of the total fee. I obviously charge them for which ever is greater.

If I am enroute and they cancel then I charge 70% of the total fee or $85.00. Again, I charge them for which ever is greater.

If I'm at the borrower's home and they cancel at that time, I charge the full amount.

Thanks KH. If I have printed docs I always charge. In the last 2 cases, I did not receive docs, but turned down other business because I was booked. Both cancelled right before scheduled signing time so I was waiting for the docs til the last minute.

Val I don't charge unless it is less than two hours before the signing. And even then, sometimes I don't charge - unless I have printed the documents. Then at the very least I charge my $25 edoc fee. I "play it by ear", but the price they pay goes up the futher into things I am. If the borrower is a no-show/refusal to sign, the same thing. If I have spent more than 15 minutes at the borrower's home, I charge them the full fee. If you want to email me, I'd love to get your info to pass along to companies who call for jobs out of my area.
