Closing Agent
hi, everyone. I am new notary public here. so I would like to know that "isn't the closing agent as the same as notary public in the role?"

ha... funny you should ask that... Most of the time, the closing agent is referring to the title company. However, just last week, I came across a ID verification form from a packet for Land America. The bottom of the ID form had a signature line and underneath the words "Closing Agent". I put a line through closing agent and typed my name, Notary Public. You may see this at times. To answer your question, you are not the closing agent and should not sign in the closing agent spaces.

So true, BP. The closing agent is escrow, never the notary. Many of the forms don't take into consideration that someone other than the closing agent/escrow could be signing the borrower. That's where it comes in real handy to know when it's appropriate to cross out closing agent, and write in notary as you did.

I am "the new kid on the block" not new to Mortgage loans, but, when you get an assignment on your "Standard Checklist for Loan closings" #1 The contact name and number from the lender/title company on the brief list of things that should be asked *Spaces that refer to Closing Agent/ Loan closer ect ... how do you wish these to be handled? In going through the Signing Agent Certification the course teaches you should you not have specific direction on this issue leave this item blank. "technically, legally, your not the closing agent and any response to this would or could VOID the document or the entire loan. (aka ya get a second set of papers and get to do them for FREE)
