DOUBLE BOOKINGS?

Has it or How Often, have you been assigned a signing by a TC/SS and when you contacted the borrower's to confirm, found that another notary has been assigned the same signing by another SS?

It seems really weird, but this happened to me the other day. I contacted the borrower to confirm the appt. and BO tells me "the notary" is supposed to be there in 20 minutes for the signing. I asked the BO for the other notaries ph#. When I called she tells me she is waiting for docs and contacted the company that hired her (this was a saturday and the company was CLOSED for the weekend).

I had docs, contacted the BO again and stated when the signing would be.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

Thanks!

The only reasoning I can see is that the company was shopping after giving out the job and didn't/forgot to call the original notary to cancel. I know that's happened in the past.

Happens alot since I gave up Camden, Atlantic and Glouster County NJ with one TC. BO called last night and wondered what time I was going to be there today. (Scheduled for Friday and canceled) BO was told it was re-scheduled for today.. News to me..lol

Yep, has happened to me also, but only once. Peculiar that it was also on a Saturday...

I had a similiar situation happen to me a couple of months ago. I printed docs and went to a signing where the borrower met me in the driveway to say the signing had been cancelled. I tried to confirm this info with SS but was only able to leave a message. The borrower told me he had been contacted by two different people who were coming to do the closing. I asked who the other notary was and he told me her first name. It was a friend of mine. When I got the whole 3 blocks back to my house, I called her and she said that she had been hired for that signing but they had called to cancel and she had never received the docs.

The next morning I contacted the SS to explain what happened at the borrowers house and asked why noone called to say it had been cancelled. Response was "we did call." That was when I informed them they had hired two people for the same job, sent docs to me and cancelled with the other notary. They agreed to pay me a trip and edoc fee which I felt was fair.

The real kick was when I was hired two days later for the same job and then two hours later they called to cancel because they had again double booked the job again.

I can understand an SS making a mistake and double booking....

BUT I was booked by one company, while the other notary was booked by another !! ??

It makes my head spin trying to figure it out...

I could understand the SS double booking also, but what got me was that they did it twice for the same signing. I think maybe Charm is right. Perhaps they were shopping around. I have not had it happen before or since.

Your double booking doesn't make sense. How could it be two different companies? I agree that is weird!

Probably 2 people at the same company contacting two different services.

this happens frequently, some companies give out the signing to several signing services
to fill, then it gets overbooked.

This happened to me before...It was the end of the month. I signing company I never heard of before asked me to do a closing last minute. I called the borrower to confirm everything. She told me somebody else just called to confirm and get directions. Come to find out, the SS that assigned it to me couldnt find a notary within a certain period of time, so the title company called another SS to find a notary. But since it was late the title company didn't call the 1st SS to cancel the closing with them.
