Do SS's really think we are idiots?

Sorry gang, I needed to vent. Granted, I am still new to this field, with just a year under my belt, but I am sure that some of these Signing Services are playing with less than a full deck. I got a call at 3 PM for a 5 PM signing, BWR has docs, only one town away. But, the SS only pays HALF of my base fee. They of course offer to "see if they can get my fee approved", (SS-ese for shop around for a notary willing to take peanuts) and never call back.

Attention Signing Services: When you call us with two hours notice and offer $40 (on what happens to be my day off so that means getting dressed up and shuttling kids to childcare at grandmas) for us to run around, you aren't going to get much -- and you are not getting me.

I figured that there was someone in my neighborbood taking peanuts for this work, but then at 6 PM, the phone rings from ANOTHER signing service, who is willing to pay my base fee.... for the same darned assignment. This has happened before.... and I am in no way surprised, but I have to wonder how the first SS can stay in business, booking NSAs with 2 hours notice, and paying sooooo low that they have to dump jobs on other SS's. On top of that, the BWR now has been inconvenienced, and will probably have to sign on another day.

Statistically, I get the most signings on Thursday and Friday nights after 5 PM. I wonder what a union worker would have to say about being called into work on a Friday at 6 PM for half his normal pay? Maybe SS's forget that one "quick" job still adds about 2 hours or more to my day between E-docs, travel, packing and shipping, and driving to the UPS store/FedEx box and occasionally chasing the FedEx truck a few blocks..... just to help the BWR get the loan thru in a timely manner.

Well, enough ranting. I live in Connecticut, and while I am not bragging, we are the most affluent state in the most affluent nation (careful NJ, we know you are catching up). Frankly, $75 or $100 is not unfair, considering the number of POSH homes I visit who are taking a $500,000 loan on their $3.5 million house so they can do some "sprucing up" or buy a cottage across town (yes, $500K cottage).

Thanks for your time.... anyone else want to rant and rave.... join in!!
Have a safe February

YES! Read some of the posts here and you'll see that yours is not a unique situation. As long as you value your time and your worth, let the cheapskates deal with the unprofessional, screw ups that they inevitably end up with. Then you can clean up their mess and get what you should have gotten in the first place!

Re: Do SS's really think we are idiots? In a word???

Yes, Joel, I feel the same way. I do appreciate every time my phone rings, but am disappointed when that certain $40 company (probably the same one that just called you) calls me, and has the nerve to act surprised when I balk at their offer. No matter, I get many more calls that are agreeable to my fees, and some that pay me more due to scheduling conflicts or "gotta get this done now" syndrome. What part of CT are you located? Shoot me an email using my profile, maybe we can network :oD
