Etiquette Question!
As a new signing agent (and new Real Estate Agent), is it appropriate to give a borrower or borrowers a business card?
I read the post about including a business card in a loan package (when returning to the title company or signing service), but have not seen one regarding this issue (unless I overlooked it).
Also, if a borrower or borrowers ask about my background or experience in loan signings, is it appropriate to inform him, her or them that I am new?
Thanks!
Pam

I give the borrowers my card. I used to leave my cards on the packages, I no longer do, I do not want SS to think I am ttrying to take thier clients.

I have purchased pocket folders to hold the borrowers copies of the documents and place my business card inside the slot which is in the folder. It seems to put the borrowers at ease that I'm not just some stranger showing up with the docs and then disappear. At times I have had borrowers call me after the signing to thank me or to direct them on who to call with questions. Of course I always direct them to their loan officer, but sometimes they have talked with a few different people and get confused on who they should talk to. I have also had SS or TC companies request me because I was referred by someone who I signed and now have a friend or aquaintance who is obtaining a loan.

I leave my card with the borrowers. I include my card with all packages that include my invoice. Mostly title companies.

I can't remember a borrower ever asking about my background, once in awhile someone is interested in what I do or how long I've been doing it. You don't have to tell anyone you are new, just tell them what you do. Also, I leave cards everywhere. It's good to keep yourself out there,(marketing) the borrowers may stumble upon a referral for you. Just don't send your card to a TC back in a pkg that a SS contracted you for.

"Oxford" Legal Leatherine 2-pocket Folder (14.5" X 9.5" ..Product number 50127-05.
I looked everywhere for these folders. I bought these at a Staples store near me. I just went online to Staples and they don't have them, so I'm not sure if you will be able to find them. They come 25 to a box and I can't remember what I paid, but now I wish I bought more. I just found them in January. Good luck!

Re: deb_MD...
I'm a cheapskate, I staple my card to a plain ol' legal manilla folder with the borrowers name written on the tab. I had a few open the folder and take notes or write down questions.

Re: Charm...
That's what I used to do until I found these folders. I have the letter size folders for my bookkeeping/tax clients and the presentation is nice. I get a lot of comments on how the pocket folders are so convenient to hold important papers so I figured it would be good for this business too. But I may have to go back to the old way unless the Staples I found these at still have them. They weren't too expensive either.

Gee Charm, I guess I'm even more of a cheapskate...
I take a piece of legal paper cut in in half lenght-wise tape the back place the docs stacked neatly wrap the legal paper band tightly and connect the front with an Avery label with my name and phone number, It looks nice, it it cheap, and I find that it keeps the borrowers out of the docuements until I'm done. I present business cards when I introduce myself at the door and I carr two, one for the real estate business and one for the loan business. I have had a lot of referrals. The notary business has actually brought me a lot of real estate and loan referrals. I never compromise my integrity however, if someone wants to talk loans I remind then that they have already gone throught the process and it might cost them more but I like referrals and wait until I've completed the signing and put my stuff away before I'll talk real estate. Interestingly I've had several signings where the borrowers really had a very fuzzy idea of what they were going to do with the money and I always have a solution.

Nice and Neat
I purchase the 12x15 1/2 clasp envelopes from Office Depot, staple my card to it and write the borrower/s name, date of signing and time and location. Docs are all neat and tidy in envelope and easier to transport in my breifcase.

cmd,
Thank You!
I had thought about folders (to put loan documents in) but did not know if it would be appropriate. Now I know that it's okay, plus I will add my card!
Again, Thank You So Very Much!
