First for me
I had a SS call me the other day stating that the Title company they were working for said that I didn't send all the information to them!! 7 pages to be exact. I usually do overnites for this company, but this was last minute, and e-docs. I could see if I missed one, but 7, come on. I think they lost the paperwork, and blamed it on me!! This SS wanted my feedback, and the only thing I could say is, that I double and triple check my work. I hope I don't lose their business, but what else from a notaries stand point can we do? Any suggestions??

Re: Not much you can do but wait it out.
You know you did a fine job, checked and triple checked, they will call again once they discover their mistake.

Renaissance settlements out of PA hired me to do a closing and Fed Ex lost the pkg. Renaissance paid me anyway! The pkg showed up after the docs were resigned. I received my check within a week and I didn't even have to have the docs re-signed. I had another closing so they had the owner of the companys friend close it the second time. Under the circumstances (my first signing with this company) I would have expected them not to pay me because they had to waive their fee even though it wasn't their fault either. Good people! P.S. they pay well too!

Make sure you received the docs in the email. I keep my emails for awhile just for this very reason. I received a phone call the other day from a company. They where misssing a document. I looked at the email. They had never sent it! Good Luck!

I did, they were all there. I think that they had to blame someone, so it was me!

Documents get lost in that dark hole all the time. I would just go get them signed. Make sure the SS knows you are doing this for them. You feel your past work should stand for something.

I keep all my emailings for 1 year....this can help out if the SS tries to pin the blame on you and you're not responsible for the shortage..

Something similiar happened to me
The "refiers" $2600.00 check was missing, and the hint was that I absconded with it. After explaining where it was in the packet and that I don't appreciate their insuating that I took the check, they had even called the borrowers to ask them if I looked shifty or looked the kind who would steal. ( what does the kind who would steal look like?) The check was found thrown away with the FEDEX envelope, because the receptionist out front thought it was just a piece of stray paper. Of course neither the SS or TC called to tell me this, it was the borrower who called, because he felt I had been wronged. Oh well, on to better things.

Re: Something similiar happened to me
PL, the first time that happened to me I had done the signing on one day and left the next day on vacation. I was about 300 miles from home when title called and said "you never collected the check". I specifically remembered doing it and putting it in the package (it was a rather large check). I was really sweating it because I was out of town and could do nothing about it. Thankfully, about one hour later, title called me back and said they had it, whoever opened the package took it out. After that incidence, I started stapling the check to the HUD so it wouldn't get misplaced. The next time it happened, I asked them, do you have the HUD? Yes. Are there staple marks in the upper right hand corner? Yes. My response, then you have the check somewhere in your office. It's simple, but gives me much better peace of mind.

When I fax documents back I always write the date and time on the top page (sometimes the number of pages) before I fax the doc's...They can't deny you faxed it back if you write this on the top page!

I always keep a list of the titles of the docs that are sent or e-mailed to me. That way I can always know what was in the package in case a problem like yours comes up. I made up a s sheet on Works and just write every title down. It's a little time consuming but at least I know exactly what I received and what I sent back. is there would every e a problem, I'd gladly fax a copy of the sheet to the Title company or SS. As for checks, I always attach them to a larger, bright colored piece of paper so they're hard for anyone to miss.

Jo_PA, great piece of advice about stapling the check to a larger brightly colored piece of paper. I've always got a bunch of contruction paper for the kids around.

That is good advice. I think I will get some of my kids construction paper as well and keep some in my briefcase.

I always staple the check to the HUD, then make a reduced copy of the HUD showing the stapled check. When I submit my completion report, the reduced copy is included in the report. I've never had anyone ask me "where's the check?" since doing that.
