They shorted me $10 on a check for a signing, which was received about 3 weeks after the signing. I emailed her, said she'd send the difference, still haven't received anything a month later.

Thanks for the reminder that I need to call her!

OK, just called, she was very apologetic and said that they had a new AP person who wasn't working out very well so far. She said she'd make sure it goes out today and would fax me a copy of the check by the end of the day.

Now THAT is the way to handle a payment problem. Assuming she does what she said she will, I'd have no problem working for them again. This definitely strikes me as a minor billing error and not an effort to screw me.

I wish I could take more credit for being such a commanding presence that I scared her into sending the check, but in this case all I did was say "I haven't received the check for the balance" and she took it from there.

55 days? I'd suggest calling every hour on the hour until you have a faxed copy of the check sent to you. Annoy them enough and they'll send it out just to shut you up.
