Help!!!
I am trying to open a .pdf file and it says "cannot open file was damaged". I noticed on the email that the company used ecopy to scan and email it to me. Do I have to download the ecopy viewer to open it???? The ecopy site only talks about scanning and emailing...TIA

If you have another email address (do NOT open) the file send to your other email address Like Yahoo it's free. Then don't open it (Save) the file to desktop Then open it.
This should work for you. The problem you're having is why I got rid of Earthlink happened a lot.

You should only need the Adobe to open that file (as far as I know) Let me know if the above info. worked for you. Got several other email addresses just so I don't have any problems downloading and printing docs.

Re: Good Luck!
I open .pdf files all the time without a problem, but with this company this happens all the time. Usually I call them and they resend in a different way, but still .pdf (not sure what they do different). Their office doesn't open for another 4 hours and I need these docs. So hopefully this will work (takes a while...no high speed in this area yet)! I'll keep you updated! Thanks again!

Re: Good Luck!
If you have dial-up that can be a real problem (to slow loading) You might want to reboot and clean your disc (helps to make to faster) also, when you copy that file to desktop (close everything else out to print<much faster)
Nothing like a Computer to give you a heartattack first thing in the morning! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

Re: Good Luck!
Do you have the latest version of Adobe installed? This cured my problem of opening otherwise corrupted docs. I think the latest version is 7.0.1., and it is a free download. Good luck!

Re: Howie
I haven't updated to 7.0 yet due to the fact that so many people on here have said they have more problems with it. Maybe I should try it. I'm no tech expert and nervous about not being able to fix it if it messes things up.

Howie & cmdNH
A lot of comments out there re:Adobe and assorted suggestions. I didn't load the new version of Adobe either still 7.0. So many people said they were having problems?? Who knows ?
I just know that the Prev/posting (has worked for me) The rest of the Troops should be getting up soon. They will be able to help also. CMD

Re: Howie & cmdNH
There are many threads on the Adobe Reader. I personally have not had any problems with the latest (7.0.5) version. There were many, many problems with the previous versions. Also, if any previous version was installed without first removing older versions, there were problems. The best and safest way to install Adobe Reader is to completely remove any and all previous versions, including removing the files from your hard drive (at least renaming the directory). And "cold" reboot your computer before performing a new installation.
I'm am now seeing some PDF files that are being prepared without selecting a lower version for compatibility. Therefore, the files may require version 7 to open them, if a version 7 compliant application was used to create the PDF file. When a file is targeted to a higher version than what you are using to open the file, then the ambiguous error message (file is corrupt) is presented, when in fact, the file isn't corrupted at all.

I appreciate it. I'm over half way downloaded. Man, I wish they'd bring highspeed and cell phone service to this area. I like the fact that it is so rural, but jeez...at least bring us up to date with the rest of the world! I talked to a head honcho at Verizon and he said that technology is moving along the same route as when the first settlers came here....so I guess that means it'll be a while for us up here in no-man's land. haha
