How far do you travel?

I seem to be atypical in the fact that I cover my entire state of Ohio in closings?
Granted only a few lenders send me all over the state, and the fees are exceptional, but does anyone else travel 3 hours out to close a loan?

My day yesterday started in Cincinnati, then to Cleveland, then Zanesville, and Columbus. I was all over the state.

I've done a few like that. Only for my regulars that I know will meet my fees and pay well.

I wouldn't go that far. I have driven an hour to an hour and a half for signings that met my fees.

Although I advertise my regular counties, I add that I am available to travel statewide for emergency signings. I have only had one 3 hour each way trip, and I charged $500 for it and got it. But those long trips they are few and far between.

My primary area is within 25 miles of my home (all of this area is covered under my "base area fee"Wink. Anything outside of 25 miles, I charge $2 per mile (one way). I have an attorney and a TC that sends me all over the state.

I did a signing last night that was one hour away.... all highway. Total of 68 miles one way.
68 - 25 = 43 43 x 2 = $86 extra dollars on top of the generous pay I was getting for the signing.

I like making $86 bucks sitting in my car, drinking my COFFEE and listening to my new Sirius radio.

Personally, I would rather do one signing for the attorney or TC that's far away than do two SS signings within my base area. I get paid alot more this way, and all my time is spend driving. I'd much rather be behind the wheel than sending faxbacks... lol.

I hear ya! Me too. I've been very fortunate this year. I've had some really good assignments with no hassles.

The most I did was almost two hours one way, could be a lot faster if there were some real highways. A lot of SS's don't understand that it takes twice as long to get there and won't meet my fee.
I'm doing one way out there tonite for a TC that knows no one will touch it for less than premium.

I travel all over Coos County which is about 1800 square miles of back roads. No Highways here. The furthest I have travelled is about 3 hours one way. You're right Charm, the SS's don't understand what traveling on these roads are like. There's a great deal of mountainous, dirt/mud, snow/ice covered, one lane roads around here. Very few Roads with 50mph speed limits-and depending on weather, you can't always go that fast. But I don't mind traveling these roads as long as they pay my fee.

I go all over southern Colorado. Including 3 hour one way trips. However they couldn't offer me enough to go North of Pueblo! I like the rural areas and hate fighting city traffic, I'd take an icy mountain pass over Colorado Springs or Denver! LOL! It would be a lot safer!

Hmmm, I guess it depends on the size of your state. I'm in N. California - it is not likely that I would drive to L.A. for a signing - it would take 7 hours to get there. If I lived in RI, however, I would sign all over the state because it's so much smaller.

But to answer the question (how far will I drive), I will drive anywhere if the price is right - even to L.A. But the price would have to include airfare and rental car - and I just don't think I am THAT special. Wink

I travel no more than about 40 miles one way. I probably would for the right price, but have not been asked to travel more than that.

I have 40 mi one way limit for my base fee. Miles really don't mean much. Some areas 40 miles from me take at least and hr...in good weather and road conditions. My problem is that some of the zipcodes cover such a large area and many townships . I can agree to something thinking its 40 miles or less then find its 60! Another notary in this area will go farther, but I find I am pretty busy with this limit.
I am really happy I have no signings today...we are getting a foot of wet slippery snow and the plow has not been by my house yet! Just finished round 1 of shoveling the stuff!

The most I have traveled is two hours and that's when SA's were far and few between. This last year I have actually cut the area I travel and have made much more money doing so. The time it took, the expense of gas and wear and tear on my car was too much overhead. The most I travel now is maybe 30 miles one way, and that's not for an SS. It has to be a TC or lender.

It has been my experience covering 9 counties that the TC's pay better when you have to travel longer distances. For my base fee I will travel no more then 30 miles round trip, and most SS's cry "Robbery" when I tell them my fees for a longer trip.

I am willing to travel the state but like you the fee has to fit the trip.

Can you believe some companies don't think the fee should "fit" the trip!

Very rarely over 30 miles. There's really no need to pay signing agents to travel long distances in Southern California since there are a kazillion of us.
