I got a notary job using a PAW magnetic car sign!
I went to supermarket this morning and a woman parked next to my car and saw the sign and asked me if I could do a notary for her right now? I had my briefcase in the trunk and we notarized the paper right on the trunk of my car.
She had been on her way to the UPS Store in the same center.
These signs for $10+ and are really sharpe looking!
Paul thanks again for the great merchandising item!

<blush> Thank you. I too have had "on the spot" requests because of the sign on my car.

Congratulations Joan. When I was just getting going in the real estate business I used to go to the grocery store with a real estate sign rider that said SOLD under my arm and it was a great conversation starter. Sounds hokey but I got a lot of business that way! I forget who it is but someone says that having a business without advertising it is like winking in the dark: you know you're doing it but no one else does.

In Ohio your $10.00 would be $1.50. Ugh!

True, but the $1.50 cash on the car roof for a quick stamp, means you buy a small cup a coffee at Starbucks now. Not bad for 5 minutes. (Let's see, that works out to $18.00 per hour. Okay, not so good.) But the conversation would be stimulating.

This notary work was for 2 documents and we are very fortunate in Calif to have the highest fees at $10.00 per signature. It was a quick $20.

I don't get it. $50 closings are unacceptable but $2 in a
parking lot is great?! I'll be ordering PAW's signs for my competition to keep them busy for $2 at a time deals while I'm out doing closings in their place.

Made my own car sign....
Sorry PAW! I saw yours and it's great!!!
The sign I made says eXpedientNotary.com with my symbol and I've gotten approached for jobs as well. (We get $6 in TX) I have a laminator, so I just printed a nice piece of cardstock, laminated it, then hung it in the back window of my Jeep. (Mae one for my business partner as well). On my motorcycle, I have labels stuck to 3 sides of my top box with just the eXpedientNotart.com info.

Re: I don't get it. $50 closings are unacceptable but $2 in
Well, Mike, all that I can say is it depends on what you want to do with your commission. In CA, they can get $10 per signature. In FL, we get $10 per notarization. For that, a quick general notary isn't too bad. If you only get $2 per act, then I can see why you wouldn't want to do general notary, and that choice is yours.
I had a signing in our local library and while I was waiting for my clients, I overheard a conversation between a husband and wife, where the wife stated that she need to find a notary for a document that just had to be mailed the next day. I interjected, politely of course, and quickly did her the notary thing, right then and there. She asked what my fees were and I told her and she almost had a heart attack. "You mean that's all you can charge?!?!!?" She was willing to give me $50 for that simple act, but I had to refuse.

My thoughts also. We can only charge $5 per notarization in Oklahoma, But I've heard scuttlebutt that that is going to change.
