Marketing Question
I have been working as an agent for about 3 years. I started because my friend worked as a title closer at a title company. She taught me how to do do everything. I have also been spoiled because I started out making $150 a closing. It took me 2 years to find out that what I was doing has a name and how to get more work. (Thanks NotaryRotary!!!)
Because I am spoiled, I don't want to sign up with SS that only pay $50. When I read old messages on this site, they all say to sign up with as many SS as possible. Here is the question: how do I sign up with different companies and not get stuck with a $50 fee?
Thanks for any input.

Pandagirl, you determine your fee. Regardless of what they say they pay, you have the power to set your own fee. You tell them your fee upfront, and if there is a contract to sign, you make the corrections on the contract. Now that said, you're not going to find a SS that will agree to pay $150 as a standard fee. But since you're already working with a title company and have been doing this for three years, you're probably qualified to work directly with other title companies. So instead of contacting SS, contact title companies.

I do work with some SS, but I won't go lower than $100. Thank you for the advice!!

When I first started, my business plan was to do as much business as possible. Build up my clients, my contacts, my reputation. After my first full year, the plan was to work smarter, not harder. It was a tough decision, turning down sure business. I stressed over it for a while. But I eventually replaced low paying companies with fair ones. I increased my income significantly, cut down on travel, faxbacks, headaches, and did the same amount of signings. It will be much harder for you to find $100 and up companies so marketing is critical, but once you do, you'll be so much happier and better off for it in my opinion.

It is hard to say no, but I have found that the ones that pay $50 are the ones that involve the most work afterward, i.e. faxbacks, phonecalls, etc. Now, I just tell them my fee at the begining and that I don't do faxbacks and I am much happier.
I am getting an average of 5 a week, and after reading some of the messages by the oldtimers , I know that isn't much.
Thanks again for your advice!!

Pandagirl, Hi I run a ss, and we pay a minimum of $ 100.00 and are very fair with our notaries. We believe that if you take care of us we take care of you. Please go to my website and sign up, and i work closely with two other signing agencies that I will forward your info on to. www.alvaradogroupsigningagency.com

There are many SS's that pay more than $50.....sign up with every SS and TC you can find with a good rating. Start here with the companies listed above. If you don't want the $50. signings, turn them down when they call. I very seldom get those $50. calls, but I keep signing up.
