Midnight signings

I had a late night signing on Thursday that ended with the borrowers backing out anyway due to another problem, but I was wondering since I am a newbie, if they start signing at 11:45pm and it runs after midnight are we suppose to keep it the same date or put the next days date on the docs. I know the ss want the same date but technically it is the next day at midnight. Thanks for the help.

It's not just a technicality, it's a new day, which means a new date. The only way to legally avoid this would be to flip through the package and have them sign all the docs that need to be notarized first.

If they use the same date on all the non-notarized docs after midnight that's no big deal, just make sure your notarization dates are accurate!

I've only had to do this once, but I did exactly what Cali said and all docs needing Notarizations were completed by 12 midnight. I don't care how or when the other docs are dated.

I have to laugh at "Midnight Signings,"...

no offense intended but back in Philadelphia I used to have some acquaintances who ran a chop shop they referred to as Midnight Auto Supply. When I say your posting my intial reaction was that they had expanded their operations. Smile Good luck to you!

Fee per day

I find it fascinating that it is so easy to find yourself in a notarization dilemma!

Too bad the fee structure is not per day!

Re: Fee per day

Would'nt that be nice. For all the aggravation I had I should have been. They said the docs would be emailed between 6-8pm and arrived at 10:15. Then the borrowers had to wake up Grandma to sign them only to decide that the loan wasn't what they thought it was suppose to be and wanted to wait and talk to their loan officer before signing. If the fee was per day it would have been worth it. I think I am learning this profession through the school of hard knox.
