Mozilla (Firefox) vs. IE
I recently changed my default browser to Mozilla and must say, I am quite happy with the Firefox browser. Today, when I went to download from Chase Secure Net with Firefox, I was unable to install the neccesary plug-ins. When I opened the site with IE, I had no problem.
Can someone out there explain this to me?

Not everything is 100 percent compatible with Firefox and may not ever be. The best solution is to try using Firefox first, then switch back to IE for that specific web site if Firefox cannot display what you need. I find Firefox works for me about 98 percent of the time and use IE for the remainder.

I agree with Mitch. I started using Firefox then my husband switched to Netcapter. I like firefox SSSOOO much better. I find that the downloads are much easier with firefox. If I have problems I just switch to IE.

Re: Mozilla (Firefox) vs. IE - Mitch...
It's good to hear from you. I took a gentle bashing from a CA Mitch a few days back and wondered if it was you. Now I remember you are from MD. Whew...you can see why that would bother me since we had conversed via email.

Yup - Mitch from MD
Brenda, there's no way I would take you publicly to task after having benefited from your wise advice. Were I to disagree, I would do so via private email. :-)

That's why I stopped using it, many plug-ins don't work. So I went back to the evil empire of Microsoft.

Here's a handy extension
I use Firefox, too, and have found that the IEView extension is very handy. You can get it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=35&application=firefox
That will give you an option in your right click menu to open that page in IE. Also lets you set certain pages to always open with IE. I have found that very useful for the FedEx site for making shipping labels.

Depending on which version of Java the site uses and whether or not the site employs Active-X, will determine if the necessary plug-in for Firefox are (1) available and (2) work. With Active-X, you must use Microsoft's Internet Exploder. Also, some sites specifically look to see if you are using Internet Exploder and which version. Then fails to do anything if you're not using what they are checking for.
As Carol noted, there is an extension for Firefox that allows you to easily switch to IE for any page. Also, you can tell Firefox to open a website in IE rather than a with Firefox.

Re: the sad truth behind why Firefoxdoesn't universally work
Let's face the sad truth here.
There were internet web page standards built by an international group of very smart, but very non competitive folks who thought it would be all together better to have a STANDARD language to build internet pages with.
Then, along comes Microshaft, who publishes a web page building tool (Frontpage), and alters a significant part of that language standard, so that the pages built by that program work BEST (and sometimes ONLY) with it's own web browser software.
So ......... like ........ what ELSE is new?!??!??!?!??!?
