Notarize This! (Wildomar, CA) They never stop!
A week or two ago I posted that Notarize This! charged me $25.00 to reissue a check they SAY they sent but I never received. Now to add insult to injury I receive a 1099 for the year 2005 on a check they issued on January 9, 2006. They never cease to amaze me. Can this be legal? Does this mean now that they have a check issued to me in Jan. 06 they will issue another 1099 this year? Oh, the drama. I wonder how many other people they have done this to... This company is bad news...all around.

I got a 1099 from them as well...the funny thing is that we only assisted them on finding a closer once with a fee of $150...They are causing themselves a whole lot of extra work since you only need to send 1099 for anyone that you pay over $600 to...maybe that is why people arent getting paid...all that money is going to unecessary things.

Exactly. Mine was for $125.00. But they can't be sending out these things whenever they feel like. They paid me in 2006. I wish they had been as concerned about my check as they are this 1099. They know very little about business and less about business relationships. They also have big ethics problems. But that's another story. Shame on them is all I can say.

Probably they are going out of business and they want to just accelerate next year 1099, LOL

I am not sure they have a website. I just searched for it so I could reply to you and I came up with a Notarize This! in San Diego. From what I have read on this board before, the San Diego Notarize this! is different from this one and has a good reputation. That's why I put the Wildomar, CA in parens.
This Notarize This! states in an email to me that they are a division of Homequarters LLC. Here is the info I have on them:

Re: tax scam or theft?
If a company list a payment on their books, and generates a 1099, then they probably listing that as an expense. Then it is tax deductable. This situation could be a tax scam. Or, could someone be issuing checks for non existing cloosings and pocketing the $$?

Notarize This!
It is not a tax scam. We cut Barb's check last year. She lost the check. She then called us to cut her a new one. Our books were already with the accountant to print the 1099's. She then called us to recut the check. Since we didn't have our books and Barb was rude & insisted on us cutting the check again immediatly, we said we had to charge her the fee to get it out that day. We never did receive the original check back but cancelled it and sent her a new one. We have the proof that we cancelled the original check we cut last year. The 1099 went out with her fee on it from the 1 signing she did for us last year. She doesn't even have to use it to file as it is below the $600 mark. We only sent them out becasue we got requests from other notaries that wanted them either way for their. We sent them out as a courteousy. We never thought any notaries would get upset about it. Barb is just a very angry person and enjoys insulting people. We have not been able to get her to stop harrassing us with rude emails since. Obviously from this forum she is still needing to vent on the situation.

Ricardo, Not nice to lie...Remember Pinocchio!
Here is the documented truth.
Email to Notarize this! on 1/9: Dear Britney:
I know you said the check went out on the 27th of December. This being the case I think it may be lost in the mail. Please check the address that you sent it to. Also, can you resend. (I received a check that was sent on 1/3 from California zip code 93063. . It arrived on Sat., 1/7. Using this as a benchmark and even with the holidays two weeks is much too long unless something happened to the check. Please advise.
Thanks, Barbara
The reply and directly quoted from email:
Below is your W-9 which has the address you provided to send the check to. If we have to resend the check, it is a $25 fee to cancel the check. If you so choose to have me resend it, let me know and I will put the stop payment on it.

My response:
That is the right address. Are you telling me that if I don't get the check it is my responsibility to pay for you to reissue something I never received. That does not make much sense. It is 2 weeks and no check. How is this my problem.
Barbara
Yet another response:
Well, I feel the same way. We mailed it as we said and we can't take the loss if your mail never delivered it. We take our checks directly to the post office to avoid any issues on our end. There is no way of knowing if someone stole it out of your mail box either. I do apologize but we don't make enough on our end to cover these additional costs. As it is, we have had to pay out to notaries on assignments we are still trying to get paid on from misc. brokers etc..

The saga goes on with phone calls. And additionally a dispute for the fee which was in addition to the $25 check reissue fee was being shorted. I had an email confirmation so I won that round. I took the hit for $25.00 because it was better than fighting and not getting paid at all but this is surely an "immature" attitude for a company in a grownup business. Try using this on your creditors...see how far you get when you tell them you are deducting $25.00 from a check YOU say you mailed but they never received.
