Orange County, CAlif. Jail

Has anyone ever gone "specifically" to the city of Orange to the Orange County jail for a POA signing? I have already gone through the past posts, but I am looking specifically at this jail. I was called today to have a POA signed. I am going to try calling there tomorrow for procedure . Just wanted some friendly advice. Thanks

I believe you must be on their list of expected persons, was it a family member of a prisoner that contacted you? I have heard their are strict guidelines, also we are having the prison issues in Castaic which is currently in lockdown.

Jail signing

I had to do a signing of divorce papers in a county jail last year. The husband was in jail on drug charges, in the maximum security section. I had to make an appointment to visit the jail, and I had to bring my ID and original State of California Commission Certificate and NNA membership card. I was escorted to a small room with a heavy window between us and the guard stayed next to me while I talked to the prisioner and looked at his jail ID wrist band containing his name and jail ID number. Then I went to another room where they brought the prisoner in wearing handcuffs to sign my journal and the divorce documents. The guard was there all the time. There was nothing in the room except a steel table with two steel chairs bolted to the floor. The room is used by the prisoner and his attorney for conferences.

I was scared out of my mind until he was locked back up away from me behind a steel door. Then I was released from the room and was able to walk what seemed to be a mile down a locked hallway to get to the reception area where I checked out with the guards and left the jail.

It was weird from start to finish. Later in the day I met the soon to be ex-wife and gave her the papers her husband signed in the jail. My first and probably my last jail visit.

david.....

I've never done a jail signing. I'm assuming that the inmates only source of ID would be his/her wrist band. Is that accurate?

I'd be nervous myself David! You were notarizing divorce paperwork. The inmate may have been very disgruntled about the whole divorce idea.

Re:OC jail

HIs wife contacted me, because a POA has to be signed. Because I am a notary, she was told I can go in at anytime, along with my proper ID ect. Thanks for the input.

Re: Re:OC jail-I would call tomorrow

like you mentioned just to verify and especially if it's a distance from your location.

Re: Re:OC jail-I would call tomorrow

I did a signing in the jail here. I met the wife at the jail and we went in. The wife brought the husbands ID with her and had already made a photo copy of it. I went in with the wife and when it was time to sign papers the guy was brought to the coutner with the guard. He signed and that was it. It was no big deal. They will let you bring your briefcase and stuff in when you tell them you are a notary. I wasnot to sure about that when I saw all the signs saying that you couldn't bring any kind of bags or cell phones in.

I would call ahead so that there aren't any surprises. It may ease your mind a bit.
