Serious Forum, or What...
Mighty serious place for relaxing...
I yam who I yam...and boy, am I glad I have not tried to be "Anon, The Beast" who is hyper-critical on one page of those who offered help, yet swing around to be a sweet little teacher who says "email me" and helps share dysfunction...to make others see the unrest and evil on NotRot on the next page.
Whatever we wind up with here to "relax" in will be what we've made our beds to be. Sorry for the constant crap, Harry. It's been ridiculous a lot of the time.
As one who has provided free resources on the web for my cohorts (notaries) I have learned that some people do not understand that a free resource is time consuming and does not always work just right. And, you can bet money on this (1) If you try to give it out equally to all, many will try to take a ton of it and put many responses where only one is allowed. (2) Some will be sour no matter what.
I intend to continue to be myself and to give little consideration for the post ratings. I assume that will be the case for my many friends here. I understand fully why Harry has done this. I am so sorry it had to come to this for Harry and Tracy. They gave us something to use and we did not seem to grasp that it was not a requirement to post here. I asked him two or maybe three times to recognize a problem. It had to do with KH and with a bad word. For that, I am sorry to Harry that I bothered him.
BTW, as far as cliques go, call it clique-ish or like-minded. I think that is the way that nature has made us. Naturally some of us like those who have like values. There will always be the ones who help, those who won't. There will always be the ones who criticize the ones who help because they did not help the "right" way.
It will be interesting to see the outcome. At any rate, I am grateful for all the friends I have made here and will have them in my heart no matter what happens here on NotaryRotary.com with raters and ratings.
I'll be around forever as the same person...unless I get enough negative posts that I won't be allowed to post further...and that will only be fair.
Cheers! (I stole it from Joan. Great way to end any post, and, "cheers" I really do mean!)

Like Harry said, we can forget about making it ( or at least try) personal and vote for the threads like #33325 and others so that'll they stand out as great resources for new notaries or others doing the research.

Jenny, thanks for summarizing it up like that. Excellent and to the point as usual. I need to go back and re-read all of it...must have overlooked some.

"Next, on the positive (or green) side of things... If people were not self-interested and not interested in attacking those with whom they don't get along, they would double-back to rate as positive those posts that are most often referred to (e.g. the getting started post, debt collection posts, etc.).
After doing so, we could have a page that displays the most frequently rated, positive posts. This page - the "green" page - in theory, would serve to answer most questions that "green" signing agents ask that others complain about. Of course, rather than recognizing this potential, people are preoccupied with their popularity and peer perception, which I should have better anticipated."
There's plenty to read today, this was from his latest update.

Brenda, I agree with most everything you have to say. However I find this rating system juvenile. If you get those anon stalkers that want to be idiots and regular posters that don't like you rate you off the board, are you going to ask for a refund of you premiere membership fee?
It was fine when anons went with ip addresses. It started out IMO to expose the anons for the attacks and general overall stupidity of their posts, just got rid of that where they can slam with anonymity, to some degree....why fix something that's not broken??? Now we allow someone to judge be it a slam or praise in complete and total absolute anonymity and where as the general consensus of the board could respond to the post of an anon, now, the anon or troubled spirit can berate in total anonymity acting as judge and jury.
After all, what is the purpose of this added functionality? Is it to cease the posting of one whom truly offers their guidance and opinion, yet gets unjustly flagged by 'anon rate it' or wouldn't we be better served by exposing the poster whom consistently flags posts negatively. For in this case, who would the the board benefit most from losing privileges. One of the privileges of posting here is my PAID for membership, I abide by the forum's regulations using a name that links to my profile. I will not now, or ever, lower myself to begin rating as a ghost. I already rated the posts that were all giddy about this feature this morning. If I need to express desertion I will, if I need to express praise I will...as most posters do. SO I ask once again, who does this rating function serve?
If we're looking for positive flags on posts that will help newbies then make a flag to attach to a meaningful post and leave the negativity out of it.
I hope I'm making sense, I'm just typing as I think!

You are making perfect sense Charm. Just thinking out loud myself: I think that Harry's got the right to pull the plug on this forum at any time. It's not part of our paid membership, in my understanding. That's what I finally came to terms with. So...I will just be me and ride it 'til I have to find another place like it if that is what comes to be.

Rating as a ghost - You mean, I suppose, rating is not much worth if one can rate as a ghost. Good point.
