I use a Brother 5140. I can print only legal size, but no one objects. Another tray is available for around $100. if you think you want to accomodate two sizes of paper. It prints about 21 pages a minute, and works just fine. There are others, but I like this one. YMMV

Re: The Best printer-if you go enter printers once you click

on search, you will find a lot of info on many different printers it may be helpful in your final decision. I have a new brother 5250 DN and love it.

Brother HL5150DLT which I purchased at Tiger Direct online with a 2 year extended warranty and the second tray for less than $300 total. I have not had any problems with it to this point.

I saw this post a couple of weeks ago regarding this printer. Our use HP just died, so we purchased this Brother printer from TigerDirect.com. It comes with the 2nd tray. So far our only gripe is that it doesn't hold as much paper as our old printer. Also, there is no menu on this printer, any setting changes have to be done through the computer. This has been some what confusing for us because we had all the kinks worked out on our old printer. So far, it prints very fast and smooth. Nice printer!

Well, while I've never owned any of these other printers.. I have Lexmark (was IBM and also makes for Dell) printers, but 25-30 ppm wasn't fast enough!

I bought a Xerox 4525 refurb printer on eBay for less than $500 delivered! BUT.. once you have it in place will blast out your edocs at 45 PAGES PER MINUTE .. has both Letter and Legal trays, ethernet or USB, Duplex and best of all each tray will hold a full ream of paper!

The toners you can find them on eBay for under $125 ... but the best thing is.. these toners are good for 25,000 copies!!! .. not 2,000 or 7,500 or even 10,000. So your cost per page is very cheap! This type of printers are the workhorses of printshops like Kinko's and many companies.

I just printed off a 110 page edocs legal set in under 5 minutes!

I stil have the Lexmark T522 so I can send two jobs to the printers at once (you know on those last days of the month!)

BEFORE you buy anything.. make sure it can handle PCL5 & 6 (printer control language) commands that most sw print drivers require.

You can even considering leasing one of the high speed copier/printers that include the toner and maint if you have 25 sets per month to print and not ever have to worry about being down for long.

Just my $02 worth!
Bob

Re: The Best printer...Yet,

print speed and cost maybe your main objective in finding a printer that fit your business need. One important detail that everyone doesn't seem to care or pay attention to is the rated workload (Monthly Duty Cycle). A printer rated at 10K pages MDC is recommended by the manufacture for printing of 333 pages per day(10k/30), therefore, excessive use would reduce it's useful life and/or required frequent maintenance.

I love the Bro 5140, I have 2, but

I have a few printing problems (won't choose proper tray) with certain programs (like Elynx and MRG). Not enopugh to trash them, tho. They are great with adobe and many other programs.
When my 2 Brother HL 5140's peter out, I will be spending my dime on an HP, because theirs are true PLC and the Brother only emulates PLC, therefore some programs do not work well with Bro.
