To all my groupie friends ...

It appears that the Anons have joined forces and are ganging up against us. I suggest that the we join in the forces that we are accused of, and take a week off answering *any* and *all* notary and/or notary signing questions.

Re: That's not really what I had in mind Becca ...

I meant not to answer any notary/signing questions for a week. Additionally, since it seems to bother them so about the off topic conversations that are not notary related, we can drive them bonkers by posting only non-related biz stuff.

Lily...

...or whoever you are, I'd like to ask you one question. If we as Notaries spend virtually our entire working day identifying people to make sure who they really are; why is it so hard to understand that some of us NotRot Notaries take umbrage with the fact there are people on this board who hide behind their computers taking pot shots at others with a false bravado they would never otherwise possess? Hmmmmmmm? It doesn't seem "weird" to me at all if there's a solution to this problem that can be implemented quite easily, that we should lobby for it. It doesn't seem "weird" to me at all that people should be proud to stand behind their words with their real name. It doesn't seem "weird" to me at all that someone would want to know with a certain degree of certainty with whom they're conversing. I believe my thinking in this area is as normal as it gets. We've just gotten ourselves out of whack on the Internet believing we have to accept this as the "norm". I for one, don't accept it. JMHO!

Re: Dennis, again

You're hilarious. Just because my forum alias says Lily, doesn't mean my name is NOT Lily any more than you creating a profile that says Dennis D Broadbooks means that IS your real name. This is a message board. Of course you're not going to KNOW everyone you are "conversing with." Why is this such a big deal for you? I don't see anything wrong with those posters who choose to post a forum alias instead of linking to a profile. Frankly, my profile is none of your business.

What's "Weird" to Me...

...Lily (or whatever your name really is) is your statement: "my profile is none of your business". Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you talking about your NotRot "public" profile which contains your "real" name & is there for the viewing by virtually anyone surfing the Internet by simply punching in your zip code on the NotRot home page? You're willing to share your "real" name with the world at large, but not with someone you're having a discussion with on a message board? You're willing to advertise on NotRot hoping your "real" name will be discovered by someone needing your services, but you won't divulge that same info here? I think THAT'S..."real" weird. JMHO!

Re: What's "Weird" to Me...Look Dennis

Those searching for a notary have a reason to see my profile. YOU DON'T. If I don't wish to share that information during an informal chat, that's not any weirder than you obsessing over everyone's personal link. I see no reason for you to see my profile or anyone else's. You're not a title company or a signing service.

Lily...

...or whatever your name really is, the point I'm making is that I don't have to be a title company or a signing service in order to view your "real" name. Anyone could come across it if they want to find a signing agent in your zip code on NotRot. It's there "publicly" for anyone to see...except of course for the person you're having a "personal" conversation with on the NotRot message board. And you know what I think about that. JMHO!

Re: Dennis ...

As I've posted several times, I used to link my profile. And yes, I don't argue with you that it's public information and if anyone wants to take the time to do a search, they can find me and all my personal info. In fact, MichiganAl can attest to the fact that both his info and mine, among others, has been posted by not only someone posting without their name, but as an anal anon on GMN. I'm not sure about Al's, but mine included my picture, address, phone numbers, etc. pasted to a post -- someone didn't even have to click a link to view it.

So, you can call me "real" weird, too, if I have made the decision to drop my link.

I don't mind having my info posted or linked

I've never hidden who I am. If I've got something to say, I'm not going cower behind anonymity like some of these cowardly posters. I've posted my name and link to my website several times. The anon you're talking about was Old Timer, and she got the info because I posted the link. It was actually kind of funny that she was trying to out me or something, when she only found my info because I posted my link. Hey, I even got a couple of compliments, so the joke was on her. Personally, I don't have a problem with linking to our profile. I don't consider my profile personal. It's my business profile and this is a business site (No honest, it is. It just doesn't seem like it right now). Come on, let's see what people have to say when there's some accountability attached to it.

Re: I don't mind having my info posted or linked

Your situation then Al was completely different than mine if you posted your link and she reposted it. Me, on the other hand didn't. She went through all the trouble to search me out and find, copy/paste everything about me in an open post simply because I asked someone to stop hiding behind their anonymity post. For someone to take the time and trouble to stalk me out, I think they are pretty sick and anal. Additionally, they have much to much time on their hands.

It did backfire on her through, and I ended up making more money that month from her free publicity than I usually make with my paid publicity.

Actually, it backfired on her in more ways than one. I was discussing it with my *cop* neighbor in just passing conversation. Apparently, crime must have been down on that particular day and the police department had too much time on their own hands. They know exactly who Old Timer is, and an incident case report has been written.

Re: What's "Weird" to Me...

Personally, I kind of like knowing that the number of times my profile has been read reflects potential customers, rather than other curious notaries. I think it otherwise becomes a meaningless statistic. Also, I don't see the big deal between a real name vs. a handle. If someone consistently uses the same handle to post, we will get enough of an idea about them after a while to determine how much credence to give to their posts. Their real name doesn't matter a hoot to me and I don't see why it should be so important to anyone else.

Because this is still basically a public forum which anyone (including those who would hire us) can gain access to fairly easily, I can see where some people might feel their discussion would be a bit stifled if they used their real names. 'Course, with the way this board has been going, that might be a good thing after all.... Hmmmmmmmm. Actually, I think Harry has done a great job of finding the middle ground. (E.g. I notice that above this box is now a notice that IP addresses will be shown for those who post anonymously. )
